They are breaking no new ground with the magazine. A G17/19 mag with the plastic taken off fits just fine in a 48. That’s the basis for these magazines.

They, along with other double stack steel mags work with modifications. The reason you can’t just use the G19 mag with the plastic off is that the bottom of the steel part of the mag goes away to just plastic.

Or just maybe the delay is just what shield arms said. The first batch was messed up and being redone.

Shield posted an update this morning.
They say mags are being assembled.

For me, even if they’re not the most durable things I’m fine with that as long as they’re reliable. Practice with the 10 rounders, carry with the 15.

If any component is going to be in/on my carry gun it needs to be both reliable and durable enough for duty use. To some degree reliability and durability are one and the same. If a part is only durable enough to run a certain number of cycles, how do you know how many cycles that is? Therefore, can you rely on it to function 100% of the time (or close to it)?

I feel like you have that backwards my friend.
My intention is to do the reverse until the S15 satisfies me during range sessions but to each their own and I hope none of us have issues fwiw.

    Everyone has their own opinion.

I see carry guns for civilians as specialty items, because the actual likely use for the item is almost zero.

For military or active LEO, that’s a different story. But in that case I’m going with the tried and true G19, not a micro gun that gets battered by super high slide speed.

For specialized “convenience civilian carry,” it doesn’t have to be durable. It just has to be 100% durable at the round counts it’s going to see.

Does an LCP or P32 have to be able to run 20,000 rounds? No, not for me.

I buy two and then practice with one until it fails. But I keep the carry gun with a low round count.

How many miles do you think an actual race car can go without an engine rebuild?

Would you try and race a Camry because it’s more durable? In an endurance race maybe, but not a sprint race.

I daily drive a Porsche GT3 in the Summer. I only commute 7000 miles total in the year split between two cars. So while the GT3 might only go 100,000 miles before needing repairs... that’ll still last me over a decade.

I don’t need to daily drive a Camry for dependability because I just don’t drive that much.

Similarly, my carry gun doesn’t have to do 100,000 trouble free rounds. It just has to be perfect for the first 2000 rounds. I’ll buy a spare one for practice.

That’s the reason I have multiple P365s. None have broken and all have been 100%. One is at 10,000 rounds and is a practice gun. One is at 4000 rounds and is another practice gun. The carry gun is at 600 rounds and I do about 150 rounds on it per year.

That’s my philosophy for these S15 magazines. I’ll try to break one and keep another pristine loaded with HPs.

If no failures in 5000 rounds, that’s good enough for a carry magazine for me.

I don’t care if it fails in 5001 rounds. I don’t need Camry reliability for this kind of purpose.

There are quite a few shooters that do not think much of Checkmate magazines.

According to Shield’s update page, the mags have completed assembly/QC and are in transit back to them.

The next few days should be very interesting.

I don't care if the mags are made by Playskool as long as they are reliable. I'm just waiting for you guys to test them out first. ;)

Someone on another forum just posted that they got a shipping notice. They said they were one of the first on the preorder.

FYI, I was on the pre order list from the beginning and had enough of the string along so I canceled my order today and asked for a refund. They emailed me back and said sure but there is a 5% charge. Sucks. Good luck with your order.
