Better than nothing, but personally was hoping to see a video showing what arrived, and comparing it to what they wanted. Not sure why they aren’t doing that, but time will tell. Hoping these pan out...
So from the comments posted and responses from S/A on facebook. To me is sounds like the initial order did arrive, it wasn't large enough to cover all the preorders, but they expected more in. In their QC inspection prior to shipping, it was discovered that the manufacturer used the wrong coating, so none of the initial batch will ship. Is that correct and has S/A given any new date that they will receive correctly coated mags and when they will be fulfilling the preorders? I didn't get in on the preorder but like a lot of people, I assume, have been following since the initial video, waiting for real world testing by the folks that did preorder.
Yes. Checkmate mags are good. The Checkmate M9 mags got a bad reputation but that was due to a coarse parkerized finish that the military stupidly specified. Not due to Checkmate design or quality control.
Not sure if Checkmate is a decent company but they got the surface finish of the magazine wrong. And Shield Arms kind of threw them under the bus. Starting to make me wonder it this whole delay is patent related as the update above said patent pending. But how many ways are there to stagger a magazine? Is this 15 round magazine the same as the p365 or the new hellcat?
shield has a new update page here: https://shieldarms.com/s15-updates?fbclid=IwAR3EsIKWMso-yica6hB_ZJv_3sh_HVlHEGYH-UWfhATYBm9j3u1MSLFMMfQ
Hope I’m wrong but I have heard Sig has issued or will issue a cease and desist order. To be clear, I heard it 3rd hand so take it for what it’s worth. Again, hope I’m wrong. I own a 48
Well, Sig can't do that, they have to go to court, file & make their case, and have the court order it. Those would be public filings, so the opportunity is there to know if it happens.
Sig can have their lawyers send a letter containing whatever demands they want, and can use their significant financial war chest to bully and threaten lawsuits. However, I’m not sure how they could say that a metal box, spring, follower and baseplate are a proprietary or protected design. If Sig is interfering, the only possibility that I can see is that their beef would be limited to one component, probably the design of the follower since the one in the photo looks an awful lot like the ones in P320 mags.
My point was simply that it's the court that has to issue a "cease and desist" order, not Sig. Sure they can request, threaten, etc, but only the court can stop Shield from shipping - unless Shield choses to not ship.
A lawyer can send a cease and desist letter for anything. It is then up to the recipient to decide whether to comply, or to go to court and incur attorneys fees to determine whether the court will enforce the demand.
Check Mate is a VERY reputable company. Now that I know they are making the magazines, I may buy one.
The Sig P365 magazine is not the first single-stack/double-stack hybrid in existence, but there may be more to the design than meets the eye. Patent law is all about those little details. I also find it very interesting that Checkmate is making the S15 magazine, because Checkmate is the company contracted to make P365 magazines. I would be willing to bet that whatever magazine features Sig believes is patentable would be protected under contract with Checkmate. I’m just speculating, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the rumors of a C&D letter is just that... rumors. But it also wouldn’t surprise me if the rumored letter wasn’t sent to Shield Arms, but to Checkmate.
At least it appears they're trying to be as transparent as possible which is the best thing they can do since I feel like their entire company is riding on these mags.
They weren’t in the beginning. I think the outcry and backlash has forced their hand on transparency.
