My wife's collie/greyhound mix was 15y.o. - terrible arthritis which eventually led to his inability to get up for a day at a time.

It wasn't my decision to make - and I had to bite my tongue.

Two weeks ago she finally told me she was taking him to the vet.
It was the right decision a month too late - she had been picking him up and holding him up outside so he could do his business, and his pain was apparent.

I guess we come from different places on this.

She comes from a world where you give dogs bone marrow transplants and multiple transfusions, and I come from one where you don't let your best friend die..........well.........like a dog.

Morrie was a Good Dog, and I'll miss him.
Dumb old thing wasn't afraid of anything - except sneezes.
If you sneezed and turned real quick, you'd get a glimpse of his hindquarters disappearing around the corner.

My Bulldog BJ went around looking for his buddy for a week and a half.

    Bye, Mo-dog.

When the need arises - and it does - you must be able to shoot your own dog.

;w Sorry to hear the loss of yet another GTer's furry friend. Many of us, including me, have gone through it this year.

We've had to puit down both our old and trusted Rottweilers in the last year.. a girl and a boy

It's been really tough. We've learned that when it's time to go then it's time, and torturing them by extraordinary measures is not being kind

We'll see all our friends again on Rainbow Bridge

I know - she knows I was frustrated with her for waiting so long, and she knows I wanted a more graceful exit for her old friend.

BJ finally stopped looking for Mo.

I had it under control until I watched the Johnny Carson compilation with Jimmy Stewart reading "A Dog Named Bo".
    then I lost it.

    Time to move on.

BJ bulldog gets lots of extra pets and treats since Mo left us - losing a loved pet does make you take the other(s) less for granted.

Thanks to all for your kind words.

Mo-dog would have licked your hands for such kindness.
