I has found it. Of course I'm talking about using a safety razor.

Start by working in a small puddle of hair conditioner (creme rinse?) into beard. Enough to cover well and saturate but don't overdo it. Let that soak in for 3-5 minutes.

Rinse off excess and lather as usual. I use Williams shaving soap on a badger brush, but the canned shave gels I tried work fine, too.

Use a reasonably new blade. I use Feather, but Dorcos work fine, just not as long.

Shave. Since I added the conditioner I have had 0 nicks or cuts, and it shaves super close and smooth.

I usually shave in the shower, but I'm on the road and just shaved in my hotel room. The conditioner trick seems to work. The shave in front of the sink was much smoother. I used the conditioner while I was in the shower. Good suggestion!

Good stuff. Prefer Astras myself. Will never buy another Mach3/5/8/whatever they're up to again.

Anything over two minutes is wasted time while shaving.

    Ewwww!

I've used SS and it's OK, but the cost per gallon is like high-end gun lube, whereas conditioner is more like using Mobile-1.

No, not in my opinion. For what it cost? Did nothing that a $2 bottle of generic Walmart aloe vera baby oil will do.

Tried this, wasn't impressed at all.

Using Cremo now, I like it. Have used lotion and hair conditioner in the past with good results.

    My usual combination is:

    - Gillette Fat-Boy set at 4.
    - Feather blade (sometimes Astras).
    - TOBS Almond or Cremo Cream (Really good stuff IMO).

Sometimes, when I feel like a superlather, I'll use some of my prized Old Spice soap along with a snurgle of TOBS Almond.

Merkur 25C Open Comb for cutting a 2-4 day growth, no clog and fairly aggressive.
    Personna (USA) Blue blade

Daily growth work shave is with a MUHLE 89 Grande with an Astra or Gilette or Personna, sometimes a Derby. Also love using a 1958 Gilette Flair Tip TTO. Or a 1970's Schick Krona.

Sometimes I slow down with a Parker single edge shavette when I can take my time.

Whatever I use on my face I also use on my dome, except for the straights.

I'm still using this. I try other stuff, but keep coming back. There is no beating the convenience of not having to rinse.

With everything else I have tried, my face gets worse off every time I shave. With SS, it tends to get better with repeated use.

The trick is to use only the recommended five drops and a lot of water.

It is not extremely slick. When my Mach 3 lube strip gets old, there is quite a bit of friction. I end up discarding cartridges when the blades are still pretty sharp because of this.

Wash face twice with bar soap and the hottest water you can stand. Use your preference of oily shaving lotion. Simple. Even a caveman can do it.

    Cheap disposable razor.
    Barbasol shaving cream.
    Hot shower.

If I'm not in the hot shower, I need a good razor and all that other crap.
