Shadow Systems MR920

I recently purchased a shadow systems MR920 combat with the optics cut and threaded barrel. The gun feels great in the hand, and has all the features I wanted in a gun right from the factory. However, the gun has been very unreliable. I read these guns have a break in period, but my issues seem excessive. Ive fired 350 rounds through this gun and had ~20 light primer strikes with 3 different types of ammo (my sig ran all this same ammo same day with no issues). I had the trigger completely lock up to the rear, and would not reset while cycling the slide with an empty mag. Field stripping the gun and re assembling fixed this. I also had a couple FTF and a couple times it fed but didn't go all the way back into battery. The LGS has been great to work with, and is going to contact shadow systems on my behalf on Monday. My questions is, would you ever trust this gun in a carry role? Even if I send it back to shadow, and they "fix" it, would you trust it?

Are you using 115 crappy ammo brand or 124 grain, or a better 115 grain vendor?

Mine has a 50 to 200 round break in....but I also use Glock mags

If you don't understand how the gun works or why it's malfunctioning, I guess you'll have to run on faith.

All 115 grain. Hornady critical defense, Sellier and bellot, and Magtech. My sig ran all the same ammo on the same day with zero issues, so I have a hard time believing its ammo related. I was using the factory magpul mags.

Im not sure what you mean?

Did you switch out to Glock mags? I had an issue or two early in with the Magpuls until the mag springs wore in a little bit...

You had some malfunctions with your gun, and your fundamental question is whether or not you can trust it going forward.

If you understand specifically why the problems occur, then you can remedy them and be reasonably certain they won't recur. If you don't understand specifically why they occur, you can't.

You may have enough faith in someone else's ability to solve the problems (or in circumstantial changes), but that's not the same thing as having a solid understanding of what's going on with the gun.

Bought a foundation series mr920 with a holosun mounted from the factory which had a failure to feed probably 3-4 every ten rounds. This cleared up around the 75 round mark and it was fine for the remaining 25, still more shooting to do with that one.

I had originally purchased a combat non optic mr920 and put 150 trouble free rounds through it. I trust this gun enough to carry.

If you've put 350 through it and it's still giving you problems, take advantage of their customer service. If it comes back and proves reliable I would feel comfortable carrying it.

No I didn’t. I don’t have any factory Glock 9mm mags, and I wanted to shoot the gun before I started buying more mags and a holster.

You are correct. I do not know why I’m having so many issues with mine. I am not a gun smith, and I’m still learning more about gun, so I can’t pinpoint what would cause so many light strikes, a locked up trigger, FTF, and failure to return to battery. So it is hard to trust the gun.

My LGS is going to contact them tomorrow. I’m hoping they are going to ask me to send the gun in. I have heard they have the best customer service. Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel even if I get it back and it’s 100 percent.

I understand, and would not trust a gun with unexplained malf's. My approach to shooting is to develop hardware and software concurrently. If I don't understand it, it's not in my control.

Imo shadow systems is a hype beast. My cr920 trigger sucked. They sent me an entire new assembly. I ran it to confirm function and it did, It ran fine. I am put off from the brand now. I’ll stick to what I already know and trust.

I own an MR920 and have run over 1500 rounds through mine issue free. Zip, nada, nothing. I definitely trust mine enough to carry and often times do. I love it.

That being said I also own a G19.5 MOS that doesn’t fit my hand quite as nice as the SS but I carry more often just because I have read negative things on the SS pistols (it’s rare you do about Glock) and I have more confidence in the manufacturer, given Glock’s history, reputation and their countless contracts.

if I did have problems and sent it to the factory and back and have successful consecutive range sessions, I’d trust carrying it again. The ergonomics of the MR920 are awesome and most days I’m slightly more accurate with it as well over my G19.

good luck

Not so sure about the "feelings" remarks....if it's fixed and runs consistently then a ok in my book. I have a MR920 and a XR920 both picked up around Christmas 2022. I'm over 2k in both of them with largely 115gr Wolf target and some 147 Fed hydra and 124 HST's. Both have had no issues even at break in. About 2k mark the MR920 had a bad mag release (soft polymer). Shadow was aware and sent an upgraded mag release and stated the replacement is a more durable part. Issue fixed. Trusted gun again.

I'm very happy with mine so far. Fit in my hand is superb.

The trigger still sucked, it just wasn’t pulling all the way back with no break anymore. That’s not counting the numerous malfunctions it had.

When it shot, it shot fantastic accuracy wise.

They named it 920 because that's the number out of a thousand that will have problems from the factory.

They should be called P80 pro or Double YEETS ( only if they can improve them)
Saying a Glock copy design needs a break in period speaks to poor quality and failure as a possible carry gun.

Way to many reports of problems with these guns to even consider it. Especially for the price.
Like lipstick on a pig.
Seems like the truth about these guns is being avoided

NO!
There are too many options out there to put up with poor reliability.

I'm glad the 2 I have seem to be from the 80 that function. I'm also only a little over 2k down the tube so jury can be said to be out.

They either run or they don’t from what I’ve seen.
