I've got an existing system that has a WD SATA HD already installed. I want to get a second identical WD SATA HD and set it up as the "slave" (I know master and slave are not viable SATA terms) and copy, with the WD utility, the first HD to the second. These 2 drives will be used in the system setup with a removable HD bay where a user can use either of the 2 HD's, depending on their needs.

I've done this with IDE drives but this is the first time I've tried this kind of thing with SATA drive, which I don't know much about.

    any advice is appreciated.

    thanks in advance.

I don’t think there’ll be much difference between your new SATA setup and the old IDE setup that you had. You can just hook up the second HD and clone the data from the 1st HD to the 2nd HD.

I recently did this, had nothing but trouble, and ended up disabling the backup drive to get rid of the constant lockups. One day, everything was fine, another day I couldn't see my second drive, then yet another day it magically reappeared and renamed itself.
