Someone asked me about sending a pistol through the US mail. I told them I thought you could not do that, but go through UPS instead. Some confirmation on this please?

    Thanks.

You can send a handgun thru the USPS from an FFL to an FFL via registered mail.

You may only send from and to FFL holder.

Can only ship long guns through usps. Must use fedex or ups, overnight service only, and only from a corporate hub, not a retail location.

I've shipped them 3 times from a retail location. Maybe the policies vary by location.

This is correct. Was listening to "Gun Talk" on the radio the other night and this subject came up. The reason for the overnight is that there was so much theft going on that they made it overnight only in order to limit the exposure. No handguns via USPS.

Received a pistol today via USPS from a dealer that's been in buisness for a long time.

    UPS Policy

You can only ship your package that contains a handgun from UPS daily pickup accounts or through UPS Customer Centers (counters at UPS operational facilities). Note: Handguns are not accepted for shipment through UPS Internet Shipping, UPS Drop Boxes, or UPS On-Call PickupSM, or at The UPS Store® or any third party retailer.

Okay, a little communication mix up here. You mentioned Fedex and UPS. I have used Fedex and didn't even notice UPS was in there, so you're probably right about them.

Just be sure they're well wrapped so they don't stink or bleed.

    No you can't.
I used to do with UPS also, but they changed the rules.
Unless you have an FFL, that was a crime.

Are you sure it wasn't UPS?

I only use USPS for all my shipping needs. UPS sucks but I am an FFL and only ship to an FFL. I rec'd a USPS pkg from a non FFL and he got in some major trouble as the handgun came open during shipment. The Postal inspector repacked it and sent it to me but it took 1 month to get things straight.

    Good question. Since ninjazx said:
Shipping FFL to non-FFL by USPS is a violation of federal law. Then ninjazx said:
So either ninjazx in an FFL or he had an FFL receive it, so no laws seem to have been broken.
