Ditto if you can stay away form the command bases especially Lackland.
I remember Dyess AFB and Lt Col Beckett as commander. I was
stationed there in the 80's.
I was also stationed at Kadena AB in the early 70's, when Ralph
Beckett was the OPs Officer.
I retired in 1992 and always wondered what happened to him. He was
the finest Commander in had in 21 years. Learned a lot from him.
On the NCO thing for AF13.
My squadron commander, and half our flight commanders (formerly, all but one, but deployments and things moved everyone around) are former SF NCOs. My flight commander has 20 in, used to be a tech, now he's a captain.
95% of the time, we see him on recons driving around, once in a while he sticks his head in at guard mount, where he (unless he has something to pass on from a meeting) generally just stands there and watches. When you've got a pair of 20 year master sergeants as flight chief and a pair of 12-15 year Techs under them..... very, very little needs to be said, they handle almost everything.
I don't mean to revive a dead thread, but I absolutely have to put one in for FE Warren AFB and God bless the missile field!
Freedom, you're about to get one hell of a captain coming your way.
Name's McGillicuddy, former NCO. Used to be the K9 purchaser for the Air Force among other things. He's going for ops officer of the convoy unit I think.
He will be coming to an outstanding unit then, I won't claim we are the best in the business, but we sure are a tight knit kick *** squadron. We will be glad to have him with us.
(although it is my personal opinion that we are the best)
I know there are some others on this board. I am not going to mention names but I have a couple of people in my unit that are GT members. They haven't logged on yet
Hello Defenders! It's very cool to see Security Police/Forces folks here. Take care and stay safe.
182 AW/SFS Peoria, IL
81250 with the 410 Bomb Wing, K. I. Sawyer, two tours. (Yeah, we liked it up there, back when it used to snow a little bit.) A year on CCK airbase in Taiwan in between with the 6217th. That was during the post Viet Nam drawdown, so when I got there we had 8000 guys, F-4s and KC135s and when I left we had lots of empty hangers and barracks.
If they hadn't combined the LE and Security MOSs I would have probably reupped, but they made the MOS 81520 and told us we would be assigned as needed. Since one flight of security numbered more than all the LE flights put together, that put the writting on the wall.
I was on KI (tour 2) when the Canberra plowed into the ground inside the main gate. And no it was not my shift that talked to the TV crew and used the phrase "Mushroom Cloud". I was in Taiwan when Saigon fell but since I was already married I did not go on the evacuation flights, the commander recalled all the single guys to provide aircraft security. And I still think berets look silly unless you have a wineglass in your hand and a big mustache.
All you guys on active now, live large; this is the good times, you probably just don't realize it yet.
Do augmentees count?
HA! I say yes. I do miss the ARCV. Now I think most places are getting Contract Security,,, Which scares me............
We already have contracted security at Patrick ... which isn't really a bad thing. Instead of an airman that doesn't give a crap you get an armed contractor who can get fired if they mess up. Plus that leaves the mobile patrols to us military.
Security Forces from '92-'12. A little more than half of my career specialized as a CATM troop. Stationed at: Nellis (92-97), Osan (97-98), Fairchild (98-01), Malmstrom (01-04), Elmendorf (04-07), and retired out of Mountain Home (07-12).
Holy thread revival Batman! Didn't even know this existed. SF Troop since '95, currently in ****ghanistan...

Lots of great memories and great people.
1985 to 1989 Stationed in Kunsan Korea 8th SPS B Flight, may 1986 to may 1987. then off to Fairchild AFB for the remainder of my short air force career. met a lot of good people, and a lot of genetic misfires that just happened to get promoted by virtue of having time in service. Sure hope they've changed how they promote people since then. LOL
Lol, I still remember every inch of Incirlik. Of course its all changed now looking at it in Google Earth, I was there pre-remake during the bad days of Martial Law. But I walked every inch of that wire back then. Hell they even have a golf course now. It almost looks like a normal base.
