Here's one who made the meaning of firearms possession quite clear..

"The ultimate authority ... resides in the people alone. ... The advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation ... forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition." --James Madison

Lots of those opposed to individual firearms ownership would not like what Madison said, betcha.

    hey Skyhook,

Don't worry, they don't want to outlaw firearms anymore... just regulate them.

You see, the Founding Fathers were right and have been proven right repeatedly. Sometimes the only way for a man, woman, husband or wife to protect self and or family is by having a gun. They finally get it that the argument, from their side, is both not winnable utilizing their dichotomous reasoning and false premises as well as their entire platform and positions on guns being dangerous in and of themselves is wholly untenable. They realize they have made themselves look like fools all along.

So now they at long last agree that people actually do have a right to own guns, but they want to make sure that the individual states also "have the right" to smother gun owners under regulations concerning their gun ownership.
