Reading through the Scientology thread has me wondering why so many think it's ridiculous while practicing another religion. How is it different than the more established religions?
Does age make a difference? Crazy stories from thousands of years ago are better than crazy stories from tens of years ago? Are aliens in space planes more ridiculous than walking on water or fitting millions of animals onto a relatively small boat?
Of the religious among you, what made you choose the one you believe in? Was it a decision based on comparing all the options and going with the most logical? Was it just what you were brainwashed with as a child?

Yes, this is a troll-y thread, but I am genuinely interested in how and why you chose what belief system to base your life on.

Actually based on art , artifacts and cave paintings throughout our planet and history it makes more sense logically than anything else.

Too many don't know even the bible basics... And spout religion... Same with other religions and movements such as commies.

    Here is an EZ one:

How many animals per breed did Noah put on the ark.

    2? Only... for unworthy animals

    7? Yes, for worthy animals...

I don't believe in an organized religion. If I believe in God, I certainly don't need a religion to have a relationship with God.

A religion is a popular cult. A cult is an unpopular religion. HH

There were only 5 animals back then, because evolution hadn't begun yet.

Ex-mormon here. A while ago I decided from now on if god wants to communicate with me, he can do it directly with me, and not through a church (or person) who asks for money. God's been awefully quiet ever since then.

Any God worthy of the name wouldn't condemn you for hedging your bets.

Howard Stern summed it up just about perfectly for me:

“I'm sickened by all religions. Religion has divided people. I don't think there's any difference between the pope wearing a large hat and parading around with a smoking purse and an African painting his face white and praying to a rock.”

I'm amused by those who argue that their made up stuff is true and someone else's made up stuff isn't.

What if there was a Religious Issues Forum, but you didn't believe in using it?

There's a religious interests forum, hopefully the mods move this there vs just locking it.

Oh, and personally, no I don't see much difference between one creation myth and the next.

Regardless of the myth, the main difference is in the call to action and how they impact others.

Some religions tell their followers to defend the weak and accept others who are different. Literally the more extremely they follow their religion, the more peaceful they are and the safer everyone else is.

Others crash airplanes into buildings and stone 14 year old girls to death for the crime of being raped.

Most fall in between these extremes.

The religious issues forum doesn't come up for me because I don't follow it. Since I am discussing another thread in this section, perhaps this is the correct section.

philosophy as a basis for your thought process, which can meander or a locked philosophical dogma...

    hmmmm

Maybe RI should be PHILs Place and we can discourse on So Crates and all those guys with funny names... like Freud Jung, Marx, Yeshua, Abe, Lao Tze...

What if everybody did what you did?

You are not required to follow the Religious Issues Forum to post there.
If you are unable to find it, we can help you with that.

Hint: It's in the same subforum list with Political Issues and Gun Control Issues.

Oh my! If everyone ignored the separation of forums we would have bedlam. Imagine if all the drunk posting and gibberish in Okie Corral had to compete with other content.
