I need a complete bolt carrier assembly for a non-LEO, non-combat upper, so are all these $100-$150 units by RRA and DS Arms, etc "good enough"?

The gun probably won't see 1,000 rounds in a year, just a dedicated plinker.

I know to look to see if they're staked properly, but what else, if anything, is critical?

And my gun's a .223, so are all assemblies compatible or are some 5.56 only?

I appreciate you educating a hobbyist like myself.

A RRA bolt carrier group will be fine.

If you are going to settle for "good enough" for up to $150, get one of the best for $140

I have to agree with mvician. Even if I didn't rely on my carbine for home defense why would I want something that doesn't work?

Dont pay for "good enough" when you can have "kicks ***" for less.

I have to agree with the masses even though I am new to the AR platform. The BCG is one of the few parts where the cost to upgrade to "top of the line" isnt that much. I would go with the BCM.

I went with a BCM and loved it. Had to sell the rifle unfortunately, and the guy went off about how my M-16 BCG would land me in jail and how he had a form 4 so he'd buy it anyway but "just for future reference people have been prosecuted" >_>

I was tempted to say "who?" but I held my tongue
