    Can't hunt them in Maine either as there's a song bird (?;g ) For me they're just a friggin' pigeon that lives in the woods. Do know that they can clean out a bird feeder in no time and that the local hawks seem to do a pretty good job of whacking them while they're pigging out at the feeder or on the ground around the feeder.
    Don't think I'd hunt them anyway as it doesn't seem like you'd get much meat off of them, but can see that they'd be a challenge for wing shooting. They can move along at a pretty good.

    {either as there's a song bird}

    That's a new one for me also. Song bird in my state are ;

    Blue Jays
    Warber
    Bluebirds
    grackle
    orioles
    cardinals
    sparrows

    and quite few more....

    Doves are a piegon or in the Piegon family.

    Somebody ought to start sending their doves , feathers and scrape at the start of the dove season to them as a joke and their receipes ;)

    Doves taste just fine. Like quail you need to get 3-4 per person for a meal.

    Can't hunt quail in my area but there are plenty of doves.

    Cut out the breasts and wrap them in bacon strips, cook to perfection :)

    Quail is white meat and taste better. Dove is dark meat and gamey, but good when prepared properly. The only method I've heard of, and popular in Tx, is to skewer them with a Jalepeno and wrap with bacon then grill.

    Several of my friends left today for dove hunting in Argentina. They'll kill over 1000 doves each per day...not anything I'd ever care to do.
