The amount you spend on your education has to have some relation to what it will do for you. My wife's education cost us well over 600k, but it was worth every penny. Spending 150k for a degree that leads to a 30k job is not a good idea. The concept of following your passion in life into the job market is nuts.

These student loans are pretty much a blank check for these pimply faced 18 year olds. As I understand it, they can not only pay tuition and books, they can buy just about anything they want with it. Maybe it’s time to stop whining and get some adult supervision into the mix.

not sure what Sallie Mae is, but what does it have to do with immature kids and their college loans?

Asinine idea. I won't subsidize their money mismanagement woes. They borrowed from the taxpayers, and they shall pay the taxpayers (or financial institutions) back.

If they were done like real loans by real financial institutions, there wouldn't be a problem.

The Universities should be held responsible for the delinquencies.

With billions in endowments a local medical school begs for $50 donations so they can buy another incubator. What they don't admit is that they make $250 a minute on the endowment investment at 5%.

Preach it brother! We need to go back to Junior Colleges where you stay at home for the first two years - and save half of the money for a college degree!

You already are subsidizing their money management woes. When these students default we, the tax payers, pay for it.

The lenders are reaping the profit, let them take on the risk.

Another thought on the matter is that 4-year degrees are obsolete. Modern degrees should be based around a 3-year model at the longest, with many of the Freshman courses based around general studies being eliminated. The four-year plan evolved from a time when many people had minimal prior knowledge of arts and sciences before attending college.
In other words, college should mostly be about the core of the study, not the "ideal" of a creating a Rennaissance Man who is minimally qualified at art, lit, a little of this, a little of that, and then the core of the study.

No, require these loans be paid back no matter what; hell, I support giving every single person who defaults 1,000s of hours of community service (or choose jail) AND still require them to be paid back.

That's what will cut down on these new "woke" majors that provide zero opportunities in the marketplace, save working for Nadler or some other leftist's clown failed campaign.

Stop blaming the schools. They are merely meeting the demand for this nonsense, providing (albeit crappy) goods and services to these basement-dwelling kids who like blogging while majoring in "gender studies." They are developing little "change agents" and parents are supporting them, even encouraging them.

Parents and kids are to blame and therefore should be held accountable.

Not sure when you were in, but I was in the eighties. My sons both served in the military and the college benefits were quite a bit better than when I was in if I recall.

The Federal Student loan program is a Liberal ploy. It feeds tax dollars to the Liberal Professors. They in turn become rich feeding students Democrat political propaganda.:impatient:

I didn’t say that college benefits while on active duty are bad. They’re still not free. Tuition assistance isn’t 100%.
