If you're so close to me that I can smell your breath, you're doing it wrong. There's plenty of lettuce for everyone, Lurch, get off my back.

Guy was right up my ***, facing my direction, and leering at every selection I made. I was shuffling as fast as the line would allow, just like everyone else.

Absolutely no concept of personal space.

That's why I move my chair right up to the buffet, none of this silly tray carrying.

I thought you winked at me. Sorry. The next time someone asks you if you like tossed salads, just say no.

Don't lick the spoon for the salad dressing before putting it back. Saw that once.

Some people get really weird when food comes into the picture. It's like some kind of primitive / instinctive thing kicks in. We have this one guy at work, nice and easy going as could be, really jovial, generous, etc...but if you give him food, he gets really defensive. He will take the food while glaring at you like you just insulted him, curl it up in his arms like he's protercting it, and find some corner to eat in while glancing over his shoulder for "attackers." And never a thank you. Never. But then again maybe he's playing us for free food, as we all give him food just to watch the bizarre behavior.

Folks like that run a risk of getting something spilled on them

Just keep enough distance and never toss anyone's salad but your own in line.

I don't eat usually from salad bars; at least not crowded, low-rent salad bars. It's like a buffet without the health benefits of heat and cooking to kill some of the germs.

At a non-buffet style restaurant, there is at least, the presupposition that the food handlers have washed their hands.

    Two options:
    1) let him pass
    2) spill something thick and chunky on him. I recommend Thousand Islands or sliced beets. Apologize profusely of course. Extra points if you can do it with a straight face.

At a salad bar or buffet, I really think, some people feel that if they don't get their food "NOW" it will all gone by the time they get to it.

They don't let in the place with the salad bar anymore. How was I supposed to know the sneeze guard was a precaution not an encouragement?
