Curious as to how many carry the SAA today. I carry mine on occasion, it's still my favorite. Because I'm proficient with it, I never feel under-gunned.

I have carried my Vaquero on occasion.

    4 5/8in barrel, SS .357mag.

I use a high rise OWB holster and long shirt or cover garment.

    Works fine.

I have a Vaquero in .44 Special with a 3 3/4" barrel on the way to my dealer. I wouldn't object at all to carrying it for defense. I am one of those people who always carries a BUG though, so I would also have a non-single action revolver (at present that would be a Ruger SP101 .357, LCR .357, or a Glock 26) in reserve. It is moot though, my department won't let me qualify with a single-action revolver.

For someone who is practiced with a SAA type revolver, I don't see any reason not to carry it. The reload would be less than ideal if necessary, but everything is a trade-off.

I carry my .44 Special Blackhawk as a woods gun. I generally don't carry it in town, but I wouldn't fell under-gunned if I did. It's a good gun and a good caliber. I see no problem with using it for defense.

My .44 Vaquero is in my nightstand and travels with me in the truck when traveling.
My357 is my carry. Both of these guns are more accurate than I can shoot them.

I like the grip on the SS.

    Smooth or textured?
