Hey guys, I'm lookin' to pickup an ambi-safety for my stainless Springer Mil-Spec 1911. However, I don't want to put on the typical "extended" or "wide" ambi-safety that you see on most 1911's, I want the right side safety to look as similar as possible to the classic/compact "GI" style left side safety. Any ideas?? :dunno:

I'm personally not a fan of ambi safeties, all they do is add another lever that can get hung up on stuff to your gun. Proper training can get you to where you can use the standard safety with your left hand in an emergency. Now if you're left handed then they might have a place on a 1911 but then again there are better guns for a left handed person to pick from these days. JMHO, YMMV.

    P.S.
If you just have to have one you might get something and cut it down to the specs that you want but most that I see are big ol' things that stick out a mile.

I am left handed... Otherwise I wouldn't even consider an ambi-safety... But from the lack of responses to this thread and my having no luck in finding anything of quality on the web, I imagine I'll just have to get one of the big *** extended safeties and "alter" it...

Thanks for the links! That's pretty much what I've seen so far, minus a few Meuschke parts which would look PERFECT but supposedly their stuff is garbage.. I might just have to try that last one by Wilson Combat though..

I dig it! I would think that's exactly what you're looking for, no? I have a kimber safety, and it works. People speak of the MIM parts, and asside from the fact that it won't take a cold blue (grrr), it works great. It attaches the same way this one does, with a hammer pin extension.

Oh, no, this just comes with a flattened hammer pin, and attaches with teh sear pin. Who knew. I still like it.

Interesting, I wonder if they're MIM though?

Good question, I'm gonna make a phone call tomorrow to the seller as I had a few questions myself so I'll certainly throw that one in there.

Spoke with the manufacturer yesterday, the ambi-safety IS MIM... I'm happy though, just bought a brand new stainless Springer Mil-Spec with an NM serial number last night and it should be here by Friday or Saturday. :ladiesman::supergrin::whistling:

I entirely agree, as long as they're done properly. The company I purchased the safety from makes all of their parts in house and they were very easy to deal with so I have high hopes thus far.

My wife is a lefty and I am seriously considering getting an aftermarket, Ambi to replace the factory ambi on her Kimber Ultra raptor (she doesn't want to mess with the stock one) and grinding the "Shelf" off the left side switch to cut down the chances of accidental disengagement in the holster.
