Model 12-2 airweight. Doesnt say anything about +P anywhere on it. It shoots standard pressure .38 specials like a champ. I would rather carry +P's though
I thought I heard onse that all S&W's are +P safe, but they accelerate wear.

I don't believe that the 12s are rated for +P. Call S&W and ask.

It's not gonna blow up on you if you were to happen to run a few rounds of +P through it. Just don't make it a habit to do so.

My older model 442 is not +P rated. It hasn't gone kaboom with a few test rounds.

+p rounds will accelorate the wear of your non +p rated gun.

in a pinch they will be fine, for once in a blue moon they will be fine. if using on a regular basis your gun will usually develope some problems.

If it were mine, I would shoot a few of my intended carry rounds so I knew they worked well with my sights then keep them loaded with that brand. All my practice would be with non +P

I'd take it easy on the model 12's, but typical watered down ammo from the big makers isn't going to dramatically hurt it.

This. Even if it is not rated for +p it will be able to shoot some of them without blowing up. Perfectly fine to use +p for your carry ammo.

doesn't a +P round in a snubby just create more recoil, but no more velocity since the powder is still burning after the bullet has exited the barrel? I've read there is no point in using +P rounds unless the barrel is at least 4" long.

Depends on the specific load and types of powder being used.
Generally speaking, a good +P load will yield more velocity than std vel loads of the same weight.
Some of today's +P loads use low flash powders and are optimized for the shorter barrel.
