Looking to optimize a J-frame carry gun and was wondering if you felt the Smith and Wesson 940 9mm has much over a 640-1 with 38 +P Gold Dot short barrel rounds. Much velocity will be lost with the sub 2" barrel of the 940 which would attenuate the performance of a 9mm so I can imagine it really can't be much more effective than the GDSB. I do wish to stay away from 357 loads, unless you could recommend a "light" 357 round. Thoughts? Thanks.

I've found my 940 snappier than my 640 but not nearly as snappy as the 640 with .357. My big concern with 9mm snubs is bullet pull from recoil, and the relative fragility of the 9mm moon clips. In power, you're certainly not losing anything with the 940 9mm compared to the 640 with .38 Special.
