Hello, I purchased a new Glock 22 on Thursday. I cleaned it when I got home, as I do with all firearms I purchase, and noticed while wiping down the slide that there was a rusty brown colored stain appearing on the rag I was using. I use white lint free rags, and it was a clean rag prior to this point. I scrubbed on the slide for some time and continued to see this. I applied a liberal amount of CLP to the slide and used a clean brush to scrub it down and let it sit for about a half an hour before wiping it off with a clean rag. After doing this, I'm not longer seeing any of that rust colored residue on the rags, and hopefully I won't again. This particular weapon was assembled in Austria (Austrian Proof Marks) and I was wondering, since that's the case, could this residue have been some sort of protectant that they put on it? Has anyone else seen anything like this on their Glocks? Thanks.

I am sure it is likely the metal oil protectant...

They come with something like this from the factory. It is a copper colored anti seize compound...

new glocks come with a copper colored "lube/grease" your supposed to leave it on and let it wear off during the "break-in" period.

What they said - it is a copper colored lubricant on the slide rails.

It has that anti-seize compound internally, but what I'm speaking of was on the outside of the slide.

my newest glock had some of the copper anti seize that had worked its way out onto the polymer frame, just under the gap between the frame and the slide, barrel end.

when i wiped it off it looked like copper anti seize, but maybe to you, since its on the outside of the gun, it looks like rust?

HA all glocks have that "Copper" lube. and It might get on other parts of the gun while cleaning.

I appreciate the input, but I know that it was not the copper lubricant that is used on the inside frame rails.

Right about now .. a photo is your best friend ....

You have seen the Youtubes with Glock the saltwater ... right?

Nothing rusted but the iron sites and the spring.

Lets see some photos of your rust .... you will set a precedent.

Never fails, every post like this always contains two posts, one from someone "offering" to take the gun, and one from someone advising him to "read the manual" when the person posting that advice can't even manage to read all the posts.

He stated that it was on the outside of the slide. Not the inside where the copper grease is, and surely anybody would know the difference.

I was told by a Glock armorer that sometimes in storage they will coat the slides with a "greasy rust prevetative" that will look brownish in color when wiping down the slide the first time or two. A good soaking in CLP will usually remove the greasy coating.

Not unusual. I've had the same. It was not corrosion. It was either residue from manufacturing or CLP or both.
