Hey guys, I've had a Pro Carry II for less then a year and it has been performing great. I clean it after every range visit and thought I was maintaining her properly. I've noticed some rust on the barrel. Anyone know how the rust got there and what I should do to get it off? I did a little bit of research on the internet, and apparently I am not alone. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, thanks all.

Are you serious? Don't care for Kimber but the barrel isn't finished so the care is in your court, not Kimber's.

There are a ton of different ways to prevent or remove rust, here's what I found in a KISS google search.

Rust ----------> http://science.howstuffworks.com/question445.htm

How to Remove -------> http://www.ehow.com/how_5118662_remove-gun-barrel-rust.html

For prevention you can take your pick of several products. Do a quick search and you'll find all the retarded arguments you want, but many work when applied correctly. Personally, I use Weapon shield, but have used mobil 1 and transmission fluid in the past among other things.

CLP works when it is used. Seems rather odd that you live in AZ and are
having corrosion problems.

Remove the corrosion with CLP & 0000 steel wool, then lube with CLP

you are probably one of those people that have acidic sweat ....marine tuff cloth from sentry solutions after cleaning..bronze wool and penetrating oil to remove.

I thought Kimber used Carbon Steel Barrels, not Stainless Steel.

That would go a long way in explaining the susceptibility to rust if not coated with oil or other rust preventative.

Or did I have that wrong? Did they ever use SS for barrels?

Thanks guys...So removing the rust conventionally like one would on any piece steel and then just keeping the barrel oiled better is that way to go

A few of their models use SS barrels, but the pro carry is not one of them. It's carbon steel and needs to be cared for.

Correct,...purchase locally or order some Eezox. It's VERY good for corrosion prevention.

Apologies for some that have posted with smart azz comments that are just a waste of space.

Flitz polish and 0000 steel wool pad. It's not that big of a deal. I know it seems like a huge deal since it's a new pistol but it'll only take a few seconds to clean. I bought a Kimber one time and it had rust on the barrel too. Now I use that polish on everything, my car rims, all of my barrels on my 1911's. That stuff works on dang near everything!!

Great! Oh and no worries. At the end of the day, the internet will always be the internet haha
