Looking to buy a fullsized Ruger American 45 for occasional IDPA and heavy metal 3 gun. I'd love to hear from people who have them and/or have shot them?

    Thanks,

My Dad bought one when they first came out. He liked the idea of a 45 after shooting my 1911. He carries it in a Milt Sparks holster that I bought him.

He really likes it. I’ve only shot it a few times myself. It’s not a bad shooter, especially for the price. He’s had no issues with it.

I much prefer the SR Series. The American is very clunky

Me as well, the SR series looks a lot cleaner and feels better in the hand. The American looks like they tried too hard to produce something new, while the SR just looks clean with a purpose and shoots well. (I haven’t shot the American)
