We raised Guinea hens for awhile. Very, very vocal birds who missed nothing around the house.Great alarms but just too darn noisy.

Rottweiler's are among my favorite dogs. Black Labs are Number one, Rotts and German Shepherds #2.

When I was young a studly I didn't need my Black Lab to protect me but I would have pitied the fool who tried to hurt my dog. And even a lap dog or a dog that's non-aggressive like a Golden retriever makes a good early warning system giving you time to get to your gun.

That said, any dog who loves you will be protective towards you and yours but some breeds more so than others. GSD's and Rottweilers are two breeds with the greatest capacity for love. Even Dobermans can be real sweethearts if they're raised right.
