Ran into a shop normally a bit high priced today and in some fit of sanity they had a RIA 1911, basic GI model, for $419.

Thoughts? Never fired one but appeared reasonably well built for a basic GI gun.

I say go for it. Buds has them for 402 but unless you can pick it up you will end up spending more on shipping and transfer fees. RIA are great guns. Most on here would agree that you can't go wrong with picking one up.

EDITED to add this link. great prices on RIA

Had one that I sold. It's true you always regret selling them. It was nicely made, 100% reliable, and one hell of a deal for the money. If you want a no- frills 1911 it is ideal.

The RIA's are well built 1911's for the money. They go bang every time and their fit well. The park'd finish leaves a bit to be desired, but its a $420 1911!!!

That is a decent deal... BUT for $450.00 you can get the Tactical model shipped from centerfire...

We sell them for $398, and use a tactical model as a demo gun for CCW classes. Never a hiccup, even suppressed.

Great for range but for defense or carry, change the extractor to a Wilson. ;)

Have the nickel version. Love it. Honestly, I think you'll find a higher percentage of happy RIA owners than K or C owners. But I guess your threshold for pain is higher on a $400 gun vs $1200.

I would follow this advice, a few more dollars gets you a lot more bang for the buck. I love mine and it has been rock solid.

Not to hijack but is there a difference between the rock island compact tactical and the citadel compact - ok to clarify - to justify the huge difference in price?

I was looking to throw down on a citadel compact but it appears the prices on buds have jumped about 30.00 for the compact (now 533.00 free shipping). So now I am seeing a ria cs tactical at centerfire for 439.99 +shipping.

IF any one can shed some light on this it would be greatfully appreciated as I can not find any difinitive information to seperate the two - it seems like it is one of those "we shall not talk about it" subjects lol

Just bought a shorty filippino and also own a Rock. My educated guess would be there isn't a nickel's difference between the RIA CSP and the Citadel. Might be a little fancier sights and holes in the trigger, big deal...

I would have gotten an RIA, but it only comes in parkerized and I much prefer blued or SS. I got an ATI ($480) instead and I'm sure they are all related, if you know what I mean. Titan also comes in SS which is really nice, but couldn't find one.

A 1911 for around $400 is a good deal. I know a few people who bought one of these and then spent more on upgraded it then for the gun itself.
