I'm torn and looking for answers. I know, this is GT, but there are plenty of non-Glockers here. I'll wade thru the info.

I've got a choice of two guns. I'd like a full-size 45 non-1911. (Already have a Para Tac-4.) Just something I want. And I want a striker-fired, single-action pistol.

I'm a Glock man at heart but keep hearing great things about M&P's.

My choices are:

G21, 2-gen (Massachusetts restriction), Robar backstrap reduction and high-grip modification. 2 hi-cap magazines. $575.

M&P45, plus having to buy the trigger kit - again this is Massachusetts with the 12lb pull "restriction" (nowhere is it written - someone just decided 12 is a good #. Ugh.). So $550 + 90 for the Apex kit.

My thoughts are this: I THINK the M&P is a bit thinner, grip-wise than a regular Glock 21. I'll know on Tuesday when I hit my local gun shop and peruse them better. I'm most concerned with feel at this point. It seems the Apex kit will bring the M&P trigger into Glock realm. A double-stack 45 in a package that isn't a ton bigger than my G22 would be great. And a rail if I ever care about that. (Not so far, but one never knows. I might mount a Rem 870 under there or something.)

Is the Glock pricey? Not for Mass it isn't. Do I want another Glock vs. a "new" gun? I'm not sure. My brain says "get the Glock - Hicaps!" and my heart says, "Get the M&P - rail and something different"

Thoughts? Suggestions? Referrals to a good shrink???

Thx!

My M&P with the small back strap is a super nice fit for me.
No idea for you.
Handle both yourself?

No matter the choices, fans will always say Glock; haters will never say Glock. Neither really gives you an objective opinion. It's always personal preference and, in the end, a choice only you can make. Either of those will work. Get them in your hands and decide.

You may want to check out Jetguns.com. They have incredible prices and often carry weapons for those of you in states with unique requirements. Their prices are great. I recently got a standard 40 M&P for $409 with $5 shipping to my FFL.

As for Robar. I have my M&P9C done with NP3. WOW. Purdy and shoots great. Clean-up is a breeze. I also had them stipple my grips and put XS Big Dots on. Very pleased with the work and turnaround time.

Cheers,

Bruce

Dennis,
I'm in the same Mass Boat as you. I understand. M&P is ok, and getting the APEX kit installed, dialed and tuned in is a process. In my IDPA circle and serious shooters, few ever keep their M&P 9mm, but they hang onto their 45s. I do not know the exact reasons why.

My preference is Glock. They are easy to shoot and maintain. Plus, you don't have to disconnect the sear in order to field strip. Glock does not need that tool to field strip.

Just my 2 cents.

Neither does the M&P. You could use your pinky to disconnect the sear.

That's mostly a personal fit question that will be answered in your hand feel. Not long ago I had 4 M&Ps, sold 3, and I kept the 9Pro. Have a few .45s now, most are Gs, but I have oversized hands and have several thousand rounds of training on Glocks.

Once you have several hundred rounds on the G21, 30, or 36 and you have your holster draw action down, there are no other pistols out there that point as naturally.

I have one M&P9c and I am not partial to the M&P line, I have no experience with the M&P 45. Since you mention the grip reduction here is a pic of my XD45 Tactical and Glock 21 with butts together and mags out. The XD has identical capacity, a 5" barrel and is very capable of handling +P loads if you want to use them. I know that you weren't inquiring about the XD but here are the comparison pics in case you are interested.

I have both Glocks and M&P. Field stripping is the same, detail stripping is easier with Glock and parts are a bit easier to come by and cheaper. Firing and accuracy is a matter of training and personal pref.

I never had a problem with the M&P "gritty trigger" that you hear about. I guess I've been lucky. I will say that I would not buy a pistol with the thought of replacing trigger parts unless it was for competion and you knew what you wanted before hand. Also, I carry the Glock and M&P, train with both and don't find the transition to be a problem.

Thanks for all the replies thus far. I had forgotten about the sear-disco on the Mass guns. I'm not sure that's a big deal.

I'll say this - my local "large" gun store had a M&P45 for $450 last week in the shop. I saw it online. Had that one still been in the case next week (it isn't) it'd have made this an easier decision.

Time to go fiddle. LOL

THANKS!!!!
