I use a Galco Miami Classic for my 1911s on a long road trip or a shoulder holster made by a local leather craftsman for my G23. On a long road trip, it's hard to beat a shoulder holster for me. My cars tend to be tight inside and I normally carry OWB which can be hard on leather seats. Heck, any seats.

I have a Miami Classic for my 1911s too. I like it a lot.

I can’t imagine IWB or appendix carry for 8 hours in a car.
My son has glued a holster for his handgun into the center console of his car. He doesn’t have a shoulder rig yet.

He says an empty holster doesn’t bother him in the car, but even that is uncomfortable for me.

The shoulder rig is mainly for comfort but I did feel like the pistol is trapped behind my hip. Especially in the winter when I am wearing a jacket.

Your point about shooting or driving is well taken. It is less likely to be needed in traffic than while getting gas or food.

Getting an air soft Glock makes sense for training. I think I will get one.

Cross draw OWB could work pretty well for a righty on the driver’s side. I have never tried one.
