Had a good season. Opening day (12th) went to S.E. Nebraska with a buddy and his sister for rifle season. I had a buck only tag, so the only doe I saw that day I couldn't pop. My buddy shot a nice 10pt'r although one of his tines was broken off, still nice rack regardless. good job Esox357! He also shot his two antlerless deer, and his sister got her deer. I ended up having to hunt the next day and saw two more does and a coyote that had a bad day when my gun went off and ended his stroll through the woods! End of day two and still no deer. Couldn't hunt the next few days, but got out wednesday evening on a piece of land a little closer. Saw three does but still no buck. Saturday it was raining all day so I decided to stay in and head over to my brothers house to eat dinner watch the Ultimate fighting match on PPV. Well, the rain lets up on my way there so I ask if he can watch the boy and if he can lend me his Marlin 30-30. I head down to shoot a deer. Well, a couple of does again then right at sundown a BUCK! Less than 100yrds should be an easy shot right, well it would've been if he would've offered a clear shot through the trees. Ohwell go home buckless again, and only one day left in the season. Sunday morning comes and I can't go hunting because I'm waiting for my boy's mother to pick him up. 1130 comes around and she shows up. A steel challange was taking place at the gun club so I grab my G31 a few hundred rounds, and beings the place I was going to hunt is only 2 miles away from the range I grabbed the 7mag and figured I'd do one last evening hunt. I shot the match (did crappy BTW but had fun!) and headed to the woods. Find a tree to sit by and the "wait" begins! About a half hour later several does come running by (somebody was shooting a .22 or something from the direction they were coming) and then the BUCK! I know it's the same buck I saw the night before. He's running wildly so I give a sharp whistle and he comes to a dead stop. An instant later I feel a slight recoil of the rifle and the buck looked hit good, but he just had to run down the hill into the thick stuff. I track him about 60yrds and there layed "Felix". Very respectable 8pt'r! "Brutus" the 8pt buck I shot last year will fit inside this ones antlers with the mounting plate! I named this buck "felix" (which means fortunate in the baby name book I have) for two reasons, 1) I got him on the last chance of the season and 2) once I was looking him over there was a perfectly cut/slice through the hair and a nick in his hide on the back. An archer must have shot at him but went high! He didn't get so luck this go around, but I did! I don't have the pic CD on me right now but I will bring them tomarrow and post pics!
