My son is having problems with his new Rock Island 1911. We have tried 2 different mags and 3 different brands of fmj ammo. It keeps having what I call double feeds. The extractor fails to pull the spent case all the way out of the chamber and the next rd jams into it. I looked at ria website and could not find any contact info. Can I adjust the extractor? maybe a different problem? Thanks for any advise.

I forgot to say we cleaned it before we shot it the first time. 2 different range sessions about 110 rds . It has had a double feed 11 times I believe.

There had been several threads about tuning extractors in recent history. Just scroll down and you'd probably see them.

Yup. A doublefeed is a FTExtract.

    -Insufficient extractor tension
-Hook chipped or broken off the extractor
    -Improperly shaped hook

Thanks, I will try that first. Hope to get some advise on how to fix it myself instead of sending it back. Hopeful that I only have to adjust the extractor. I have not had problems with a new pistol in years, and I read good reviews on RIA, but I guess problem guns slip through sometimes. Thanks to eveyone for their help.

Looks like the extractor does not have enough tension to grab the shell.
