hey all, been lurking for a while finally decided to break the ice. I recently bought a rock island compact and would like to buy some magazines. My first attempt was a mecgar 7 round and the lip at the top of mag is about .050 higher than the mag that came with the gun. On last round the empty casing gets stuffed back into the lip of the mag. I also get casings to the face and head on and off, could this be mag related? love this pistol but new to 1911 platform. any suggestions would be welcome

I wondered if mag being too high could make brass jump off next round and out back of slide. I am not sure if problem happens with mag that came with gun. Lost track after a rocket to forehead, I was having ammo issues also, bad crimpstuck one in chamber and had to disassemble gun. Gonna try diff ammo and factory mag. I am going to purchase some good mags, trying to figure out. What ones, prefer a flush fit.

Doesn't sound like a mag issue. Sounds like extractor/ejector. The last round casing being extracted back into the magazine is weird.

Went out and shot 3 mags thru gun last night only using factory mag. No brass stuck back in mag but had 4 ret to battery issues. No brass to face but a couple dropped in front of me, no big deal there. May be limp wristing? Overall much better still not gonna carry it yet.

I didn't read your post carefully enough! Sorry, I didn't see you're asking about a compact. The regular 7-rounders I mentioned won't fit. I do think they make compact size mags that would fit though --

But then again I'm not super familiar with the compact size 1911s, I've only used a full size. So I'm probably not much help!

Do colt 7 rounders fit flush in ria compact or do I need 6 round mags?
The RIA Compact is the equivalence in size as the Colt Officers ACP Model. So, the regular size mags will work BUT they will stick out. To fit flush, you need Officers mags; of which could be either 6-rounders or 7-rounders. Standard mag is 6-rounders but some companies (Wilson Combat comes to mind) makes a flush fit 7-rounder for it.

I have great result with Mec-Gar, so I bought some nickel plated Mec-Gar 6-rounders for my Colt 1991A1 Compact.
