They tend to step on conservative toes, but the ACLU is fundamentally non-partisan: they protect civil rights.

Perhaps, but it's very rare for the ACLU to step up in a 2nd Amendment case... their view of the Bill of Rights tends to ignore that particular right, making this an unusual case.

Wonder why a judge has already told the police to give the guns back.

The Complaint is a little lacking IMO. It's only 41 paragraphs and 3 counts long. Not too shabby for ACLU lawyers, but it's not exactly like the 250 paragraph, 17 count, 4 million dollar lawsuits that these Brickell firms pump out for banks.

I'm a little surprised they took this one on. The police report that the ACLU attached clearly says that the guy "advised us that he was having tremendous difficulty with his PTSD and that he had been drinking heavily this night."

I'm not making a judgment call on whether the man should or should not have weapons. But, I am saying that I think the ACLU could have found a better 2nd amendment test case for the northeast.

Not to mention that as the weapons were returned by a judge's order, should the guy ever commit suicide or hurt a third party in the future, the PD is covered. No downside for the PD.

If you are a gun owner they, the national ACLU organization, are stepping on your toes too...

Are you part of their marketing team? For decades the ACLU was more or less silent about 2A issues.

Also the top dogs at the ACLU have tended to be well known hyper-leftists. Maybe this has changed or at least softened?
