I wonder where those financially endowed private pilots get parts, in particular things like the Grumman Bearcat, Rare Bear flown by an SR-71 pilot?

Hot rodded like Rare Bear is/was has to be tough on parts. Don

How is it even possible to acquire what is needed to restore such old treasures?

If you can’t find the part, you fabricate it. Just takes $$$

I watched "Spitfire" on Netflix earlier this afternoon. One of the last living Aces was 'interviewed' - I could not figure out what he was referring to, accent and such - and now I know :) 'Twas "Focke Wulf FW 190". If I understood the story telling correctly, at one later point in the war he and others had barely made it back to whichever airfield - only to hear, then look up, to see like 20 of those things coming in overhead.

Apparently (I didn't catch all the details) not too long afterward the Spitfires were super upgraded, improved, lighter and faster.
Point being: he said that after that development, 'we didn't worry about the FW190s too much anymore'.

One of the last times I visited my grandad he told me about lighting one up from his tail gun and just seeing Sparks. The engine and cockpit was heavily armored.
I secretly filmed him when was telling me these stories.

I would have like to see a P51 shoot it down as soon as it was airborne.

Would you settle for a Spitfire adv. Focke Wulf 190 "Tail Chase" ?

And then Dr-Ing Kurt Tank created the -9 and the TA series and it was game-on, all over again. HH

Did it, in one config, have a shoot through the nose 30mm cannon?

The -190 used the BMW 801 which was the first engine ever to use an engine management system (now called an ECM.) It required just a throttle since mixture, carb ice, manifold pressure, timing, boost, etc. were all automatically controlled. HH
