sirs,

would replacing certain parts of your pistol by yourself post any problems?
for example: replacing the mainspring housing, changing the firing pin and its spring, changing the sear spring, etc.
what parts/items should only be installed or replaced by a competent gunsmith?

Nope it's not necessary to bring it to a gunsmith IF u have even a small spec of knowledge about it but if not better to be safe than sorry. But if u know how to or know something about it madali lang :supergrin:

Sear spring, disconnector, sear and hammer. Unless you're mechanically inclined like mc_oliver who knows how to use a file.

always wear eye protection when working on your pistol. all those springs become dangerous projectiles!

i'd let a smith install the firing mechanism. hammer, sear, discon, grip and thumb safety. too easy to mess up your perfect trigger job and damage your thumb safety if you're not mechanically inclined.

but once you get the hang of it, its easy to install all by yourself. download ka schematic diagram for reference.

good luck and don't shoot yourself in the foot or someplace worse if you install the parts the wrong way! peace! :clown:

You mentioned the mainspring housing.

I bought an S&A magwell. I tried to install in on my Norinco just to see how it looks, but the fit was too tight that I scratched the magwell.

I'm not one to experiment with a 5K-peso part, so I'll leave it to a gunsmith. Plus it (the well part) needs to be blended with the frame by a gunsmith anyway.

You might want to visit this gunsmith's (Blindhogg)site. It may give you an idea which parts you will be able to fit yourself.

thank you so much for the replies.

so far, i've replaced the following simple parts myself:
guide rod, barrel bushing, and slide stop/release. i was also able to replace the mainspring housing.
i have with me a thumb safety and beavertail. when i tried putting in the thumb safety, it would not completely go through. upon checking it seems that i have to file a part of the thumb safety. i also tried putting in the beavertail. it actually fits well (aesthetically) but upon trying to engage it, i could not pull the trigger. so again, i guess, i must file some part of it. now i am tempted to file the parts myself that is why i am asking if this is ok or i have to ask a gunsmith to do it for me.

i'm expecting some springs and a complete pin set so i would eventually need a gunsmith to do the replacing.
aside from metrillo, who would you recommend po?

It would help to have a caliper, mahirap yung tantya lang.
Remember, a little filing goes a long, long way.
