Tired of lugging aroung the G23. Looking for an adequate Airlite snubbie. My question is .357...... .38 Spcl +P ........ or .45?
And YES...I did say opinions wanted.

    Thx

I doubt you will find many 45's that are lighter weight than the 23. I could be wrong though. There is nothing wrong with a 38Spcl +P. Load it with Golden Sabers or another quality ammo and carry a speed loader and you should be fine.

    I don't like the lightweights. If I carry a revolver its an SP101. If I were you, I'd go for a G27.

This makes sense about the G27. If I had a carry revolver i'd probably go for .357 mag.

I'd be willing to bet the 27 is probably almost as heavy as the 23, and the difference is negligible. The revolvers will always be very close in weight to the Glocks, unless you go an airweight. The problem with the airweights they are *very* uncomfortable to shoot IMO.

I'd look at why you're having problems w/ your 23. What type of gear are you using? Are you using a proper gun belt?

I have carried a J frame Smith forever, until I picked up a G-19. When using IWB rig for both, weight is similar between the 640 357 and the Glock.

Darned if the 640 does not print more than the Glock!

1/3 the ammo, similar power, and reduced accuracy at any range past spitting distance.

I also have a 340 PD that is an absolute beast to shoot with anything other than a reduced recoil load. However, it is a Bunny Pharte load, and is definitely not for SD.

I have about retired my Smith J's for the G-19.

Not looking to get a fun/range gun so comfort of firing is not a factor. This needs to save my life when I need it to at 7yds or less.

FLAME-AWAY but I'm not concerned w/ round cound or accuracy past 7yds, further than that I can RUN or it ain't my business.
So what are some of the top rated Airlites or Featherweights out there?
I really liked a S&W Airlite in .22MAG 8-Shot my uncle let me shoot. Felt lighter than my moneyclip in my front pocket. Thoughts on the .22 MAG for SD?

A lot of people have flat out missed at the 7yd range. You need to practice with the firearm regardless.

I'm not talking about comfort, I'm talking accuracy. If you consider a .22mag adequate for self defense, then I guess you can go that route. Personally, while I value placement above all things, I'm not sure I'd trust a .22mag I was really referring to something in a self defense caliber(.38spl and above). You're also assuming they let you run.. If they are armed, their rounds will go a lot faster than you can take cover.

Again, how are you carrying your Glock 23? I'm curious why its an issue for you. What type of holster are you using, and what type of belt are you using?

I carry my Glock 27 quite comfortably in a Galco Summer Comfort with a Wilderness Instructor belt.If something like that doesn't work for you try a S&W 642.

I carry a 27 daily as well. The weight between the 23 and 27 is slight.

I went with a .32 H&R magnum in a S&W J frame airweight -- perfect summer attire pistol. 6 shots, easy to shoot accurately, and weighs about 13 ounces loaded.

That said, I find my new G26 very comfortable for everyday carry, but it's not a pocket pistol like the .32 mag.

I have a 642 airweight that I sometimes carry. I WOULD NOT want that sized pistol in .357mag. Well I would, but I don't like shooting it. The .38+p is stout and I can still follow up quickly. I can't do this with the .357mag.
I find that the 642 is much lighter, but not significantly easier to conceal, which surprised me.

i have had my 23 for two years and was looking for a summer carry gun. i can carry the 23 but wanted something a little smaller. in j-frames my wife has a 642 and me an old model 60 .38 and a 640 .357. the 640 works great with GD 135 .357 short barrel for a little over 1000 fps out of my 640 but five rounds go quick [ballistics about my minimum]. also my sweat will rust stainless. i just bought a 27 and couldn't be happier. the 27 weighs 1 once heavier than my 640 both loaded and weighed.
and yes the 27 is easier to carry than the 23.

I second the airweight idea, If you have the money i would shell out the cash for a 357 mag (340) that way you can have the option of shooting both. I also feel that a a good holster can hide your G23 and with a good belt it will disperse the weight alot better

But, but, but, then you'll have to change your sig line.

I have a G23 and a G27. I started out carrying the 23 but as of late I carry the 27 almost exclusively. It's not the weight so much as it is just a little easier to conceal. I like both of them though.:wavey:

S&W 442. Forget the .357 in these light guns.

I would get a G-27 with beltman belt and MTAC.
