The California Assembly has passed a bill setting up a commission to assess reparations for slavery.

That on top of everything else, COVID mismanagement, Riots, police de-funding, payments to illegal immigrants, etc.

And then there is statewide rent control. Eviction prohibition with now a bill to make it permanent in some cases -- not sure about that one yet.

So, here I am in a state that is $56B in deficit from the Corona Virus, passing a bill to tax people who weren't born to pay money to people who weren't born during the period of slavery.

And my ancestors on my mother's side came to the US from Holland well after slavery was abolished. On my father's side my ancestors lived in Massachusetts back during slavery and before since the 1640's.

So I have to pay taxes to pay reparations? NFW.

The inmates are running the asylum.

I know I'm slow at thinking, but I've finally decided to get serious about moving out of California.

We have a perfectly nice house in Eagle Idaho -- on a hill with a view. It needs some cosmetic fixing up, but my wife likes to do rehabs and is good at it.

So as of now, that's where we are going.

We just signed a 1 year lease on that house for renters, so we have a year to get ready.

Also, I'm going to gradually move some, or perhaps all, of my rentals out of California with 1031 exchanges -- either to Idaho or Arizona.

The only way I'd change my mind is if I see some semblance of rationality returning to SF Bay area and California government.

    Fat chance.

Not all blacks in America came from slave families. I had a history student who was REALLY into whining about his slave background. It got bad enough that it was disrupting class. Word of his crap got back to his mother.

We had a parent teacher conference. She was pissed.

She told us his great grandparents on her side were Diplomats from some African country. They were displaced because of a revolution back home and became US citizens.

His grandparents on his dads side emigrated here legally in the 1960s.

    He had no slave heritage.

Jambog. You probably couldn’t find the other thread because you spelled reparations correctly;)

I live near Eagle. Nice area.

Recommend changing to Idaho plates asap if you do move here. Many folks are growing weary of Californians escaping CA and bringing their CA values (that's not you). Coincidentally, most people in our circle of friends are refugies from CA, but were attracted to Idaho values.

Growth is rapidly changing the culture in the valley, with Boise city pretty much trending blue.

Yes I've run into that. I've owned property up there for 15 years, and it's changed a lot.

Sometime people make a comment to me about too many Californians moving in. I politely ask, where did you come from? Usually they respond: "California".

That last thing I would want to do when moving to idaho would be to bring California laws and attitude with me. That's what I'm trying to get away from. If I did that, then I'd have to move again.

CA can do what they want with their money, but not mine. Do reparations get diminished by the amount spent over the last 50 years on various welfare programs?

I grew up in Colorado and the same thing happened there 30 years ago. A bunch of people in CA decided they could not handle it anymore, escaped to CO and immediately started complaining about how the state wasn't like CA. I used to see a lot of "Don't californicate Colorado" bumper stickers. Even 30 years ago there was a thriving hippie culture in Boulder, where I went to college. But outside of Boulder and Denver the state was deeply Republican. Too bad the hippies won out in the long run.

Reparations will advance black youth since they will be able to buy big trucks to load the loot.

I used to own rentals in Madison, WI (aka Berkley East) about 20 years ago.

Developers came in 25 or so years ago, bought some serious ceasepools, dumped a lot of money into them, evicted people like a watch and eventually got paid when they associated them into condos. They sold like hotcakes.

People complained and with sweeping changes landlord-tenant laws changed so much the book the police were given was 4" thick with about 1/4" designed to protect the landlords (the bar I worked at pt was a off duty police hang out since it was techncally in the Town not City of Madison)

Luckily I sold all my units to a Cardiologist looking to buy after selling a lot of student housing. He also needed to do a 1030 exchange.

    Get out now.
