Apologies if this has been discussed before. I've read everything I can find on this subject and still haven't found the answer I recently purchased a new G17 that came from the factory with Trijicons installed. According to the envelope the fired cases came in the gun was made in summer 2005 so it is brand new (s/n HFRxxx) I'd like to remove the sights and replace them with a Dawson front/Heinie rear combo. It appears the front sight is pressed in or crimped in some way. I've read about the 3/16" nut driver/sight tool but I'm not sure that will work. When I turn the slide over there is an oval shaped hole that, it seems to me, the 3/16" tool won't fit in to. It doesn't look like there is any nut to remove. In the oval hole there appears to be some sort of strut that would have to be pushed aside somehow before the sight can be tapped off from the underside. In addition to the 3/16" tool, I've seen a c-clamp shaped tool on ebay but it's not clear to me which one, if either, I would use Also, the Dawson fiber optic front sight is delivered with a small hex nut that is meant to be screwed into the post in the sight from underneath. I'm not sure, but I don't think the nut will fit into the oval opening on the underside of the slide Has anyone removed the front Trijicon night sight from a new Glock and replaced it with something else? If so, how is it done?
