My new Remmington 700 R5 Milspec outfited with a Leuopold VX3 4.5x14 and bipod. Just got her last week at McBride's Gun Store in Austin. Has a HS Precision Composite stock, XMark Pro Trigger (adjustable) and 24 " Stainless Bull Barrel. Trigger is set at 3.5 lbs from the factory.

This is my first time to the range shooting A Federal Premium Sierra MatchKing BTHP at 100 yards off the bipod.

Nice piece, I've considered it...how much did the rifle go for? I see them online for 900-1100 before shipping and transfer.

I paid $1,075.00. Felt I was fortunate to come across one. Have read a lot about them but just hadn't seen one in a gun store. Supposedly they only manufacture 500 a year.

Did the gun store have it in stock or was it a special order?

i stumbled across a 5R in my local shop for 725 with a bsa 4-16x scope. most accurate gun ive shot to date. i actually went back for a second look at a SPS-Tactical in .308 and couldnt leave without the 5R. the BSA scope was junk but that was easily replaced.

    have fun with it.

i used to live two blocks behind mcbride's. the liquor store down the street had two african gray parrots. one was nice, one was mean. they both acted like they wanted you to give them a scratch. the mean one would lure you and and try bite off your finger. that was more than ten years ago. mc brides is good place.

I also have a .308 5R. That looks like good shooting for the first range trip. Congrats on a great purchase. That is a rifle you can enjoy for a lifetime.

Get out to best of the west range and shoot it on the long range. I think you have a nice scope, but you may find it better suited to a hunting rifle. There is no such thing as too much scope for that rifle.
It should serve you well for the time being. Now to the reloading. Lapua brass, neck sized only, 44 gr varget, federal gold metal primers, Sierra 175 gr matchkings. Later play with 155 Scenars.

Yep. Guy at the range let me shoot his, with some handloads. I took 2 shots, put them both through the same hole. These can be extremely accurate guns.

It does what I need. It is very clear, but I don't have many rounds through it, and has only been to the range not in the field yet. So far it was worth the money, but only time will tell.

I have the same scope on my sps tactical .308 with around 500 rounds. has held zero and been spot on for me for shots out to 800+.
