Mas: I would like your opinion on my current carry round for my Glock 23 and S&W 642. In the .38 I have been carrying the 125gr +P, and in .40 I have been carrying the 165 gr. rounds. Both function well and are very manageable for me. In both calibers, is the golden saber a proven defensive tool? I started using the Saber's in my G23 because a friend in the Missouri Highway Patrol used them, then when I purchased the 642 it was a natural choice but I would be open to trying some new ammo if it had a better street record.

The 165 grain Golden Saber .40 has earned a good reputation on the street. Right now, the hot ticket for 2" .38 is Speer Gold Dot 135 grain +P. The GS in 125 grain .38 trim is promising but I haven't run across any shootings with it.

best,
Mas

I went to the local range yesterday for some practice and also purchased the Gold Dot 135 gr. +P short barrel ammunition that you recommend. I fired a box of the gold dots and then a box of the golden sabers and there were some differences. The golden sabers had significantly more muzzle flash than the gold dots, recoil was similar, and the gold dots seemed to pattern better out of the 1 and 7/8 in. barrel on my 642.
