Arizona customers will be paying sales tax on Amazon purchases, thanks to this physical presence.

Interesting they noted it's proximity to Mexico and Amazon wanting to expand there.

Seattle Amazon is probably going to freeze while other states expand.

I hope Amazon votes on the tax with their feet!

The day after the $275/head passed the city workers were out in full force cleaning the streets. It's a day late and a dollar short. It is just posturing. The Seattle city council socialist idiots including the last few mayors enabled this problem into being by giving handouts. Now they want to shelter them with tax payer money and STILL allow drugs and alcohol in the shelters! That's like telling your son or daughter it's OK to shoot up in your room. They all ought to be prosecuted. I work in that disaster of a run city but am glad as hell I moved out of county to town with a Republican mayor and city council. No camping on the streets allowed here. Bezos is looking for another town for HQ2 and that high rise he halted construction on has a core and structural steel up around 25 floors. It sits for now. Those workers on that project are pissed. A homeless guy just raped a 40 year old woman in a car dealer restroom in Seattle on Monday. People are furious. Bezos was ok with Jenny Durkin's (Mayor) proposal of 250/head. It got voted down. Sawant held out for 500/head. Bezo's hasn't yet announced if he's good with 275.

As the article points out, this is a fulfillment center. There are already four in the Phoenix area and many more around the country.

Arizona already has these same facilities in state, just in Phoenix rather than Tucson.

Also, if your state collects sales tax, you as a consumer are required to pay a use tax to your state on internet purchases. The enforcement on this is selective as it wouldn't be cost effective to come after John Smith for use tax on the $20 thingamabob he bought on a website. Go ahead and buy an item online that has a significant taxable value though and you will find out about use tax in your state and your obligation to pay it relatively quickly.

I wondered if the whole HQ2 thing was to assist in a move out of Seattle. It's a bit hypocritical for a liberal run business to move to avoid taxes and the oppression they put on us.

Cities around the country would kill to get Amazon's second headquarters, and are looking to lure them with all kinds of incentives, including tax rebates. Contrast this with Seattle, who wants to levy more taxes on Amazon. Amazon will do what will save them the most money. In business, that's called a "no-brainer". But the only people who truly have no brains are the politicians of Seattle.

Most States require sales tax be paid on online and out of state purchases. It is usually found on your state tax form. "estimated sales tax on out of state purchases" or something similar. It's there, but nobody pays attention to it.

Bet Bezos doesn't realize that exposed steel has a half life, in that state. It is intended to be reinforced for long term integrity, the longer it sits exposed and unsupported the more likely it is to fail inspection when construction is resumed. At that point the cheapest option is complete demolition and start over again.

I really don't care about Starbucks and Amazon, they are getting back what they have pushed on us with their liberal policies.
But I do feel sorry for other companies that live in high volume and low profit margins.
    Like larger fast-food restaurants.
But it's also funny watching Amazon and Starbucks whining about this.

Amazon already charges taxes no matter what state. that is why I find myself buying more on Ebay from the same vendors. most of them also include shipping on the price and don't charge outrageous shipping for something that weighs an ounce!

DemocRATs never saw a tax or tax increase they didn't love. It's the ONLY way to fund the huge gov't they love.

Sawant has advocated the nationalization of large Washington State corporations such as Boeing, Microsoft, and Amazon.com[53] and expressed a desire to see privately owned housing in "Millionaire's Row" in the Capitol Hill neighborhood turned into publicly owned shared housing saying, "When things are exquisitely beautiful and rare, they shouldn't be privately owned."[54] During an election victory rally for her City Council campaign, Sawant criticized Boeing for saying it would move jobs out of state if it could not get wage concessions and tax breaks. She called this "economic terrorism" and said in several speeches that if Boeing moved jobs out of state, the workers should take over Boeing facilities and bring them into public ownership.

Well, Boeing is moving some production (more accurately starting) elsewhere. Let's think a moment. The automobile industry was encouraged to move elsewhere from Detroit. Despite the laws permitting tax foreclosures, redevelopment, the Detroit City council never spent the time or the money to tear down the slums. Seattle will follow the same path.

Seattle is not an ideal area for development. The available land area for construction is constrained by the geographical limitations. If a person is rational and follows his self interests, taxes are always a concern. The homeless flock there. If you were one of that group, you would prefer it to living in Richland, Kennewick or Pasco - more entertainment and more governmental benefits. If you were a young person looking for advancement, you would go live there.

When the major corporations decide to shift (leave), the downward pricing on land and improvements will spiral.

I'd leave it standing as long as possible until pressured by property taxes or whatever as a reminder that the socialists hastened running out of other people's money by driving businesses away. Starbucks is another liberal run outfit here and they're pushing back as well as others. The libiots just don't get it here on the left coast.
