If a computer is running, say, XP Home, and you do a clean reinstall of XP Home, it will re-activate legitimately with MS, right?

Same goes for all other versions of Windows? Or not?

    Thanks

As long as you are using the original installation disks you won't have any trouble activating the OS, if you are using a disc that you "found" (same version as original) then you may have to call MS to get it activated.

My laptop's HD died a few months ago. Not being a computer geek myself, I tossed my Vista Installation CD's several months earlier. I easily figured out how to replace the HD, borrowed Vista installation CD's, and installed a my Windows 7 upgrade (again). Everything worked, no calls to MS needed. That was three months ago and no nasty grams from anyone....

I even think Sgt. Schultz helped me out on that one!
