I wouldn’t put an RMR on a thumper. I don’t think it can take the recoil.

I was thinking about putting either an Aimpoint H2 or Trijicon MRO on my Henry Long Ranger.

My old eyes can still handle peep sights in daylight, but the buckhorn rear sight mounted way forward is no bueno any more.

I am a recent 1895GBL 45-70 owner and I have been debating the same thing.
I have been doing a lot of reading on the Marlin Forums and no one has complained of any reasonable red Dot failing. Some are using the Burris FF3.
I have a slide mounted Vortex Venom on a Glock 10mm that I shoot heavy hunting loads in. I can't imagine much more abuse than the slide slamming around on that gun.
I have a Mueller Red Dot in my safe I am going to try. I have another on my turkey shotgun and it kicks pretty dang good too.
