First I want to thank Nastytrigger for starting the Hard Hitting Revolver thread. Couldn't have come at a better time because I've been hit hard with the bug for a "big" revolver. Since I have and love a GP100 in stainless with a 6" barrel .357 cal, I'm partial to Ruger. I think I'm looking for a .44 mag. and I'm pretty sure I'd like a Redhawk in stainless with a 5.5" barrel. But what do Super Redhawks have that Redhawks don't? Doesn't look like the Supers come with 5.5 inch barrels, right? Pretty sure I don't want a single action, but what makes the Blackhawk so popular? Looking forward to all your comments! Thanks

Single action guns are generally, very robust, and recoil straight back, so they're comfortable to shoot.

I own a S&W Alaskan mountain gun, and a Dan Wesson SA/DA and a Blackhawk in 44 mag. While the Dan Wesson is the most accurate, the Blachawk is the most fun to shoot, and most likely one for me to grab.

SuperRedhawk has an extended frame and a different lower receiver.

As far as what makes a Blackhawk/SuperBlackhawk popular, hell, easy answer - the price.

    Hideously ugly looks :ack:

The Super Redhawk is one of the ugliest revolvers built today, in my opinion.

Blackhawks are popular because of the build quality, strength, and good price.

I had a Super Redhawk that I sold for much more than I paid for it. The Supers come with 7.5 or 9.5 inch barrels. Mine had the 9.5:supergrin:

Great gun but I just didn't shoot it enough to justify keeping it around.

Even with the 9.5 inch barrel and stainless steel frame it had quite a recoil:wow: You definitely knew you were shooting a .44 magnum!!!!

.357 magnum is the most I will do in a revolver now. Everything else is just useless to me since I don't hunt.

    Good luck in your search.

Fifteen years ago, I literally wrecked two of my 44 mag S&W M29s with heavy loads of H110. Bought a Redhawk thinking it would be different. Well, it lasted a little longer than the S&Ws, but still couldn't hack it. The Blackhawk I bought way back in the 1980's is still going strong. And the classic single action grip on the Blackhawk is much more comfortable to shoot than most modern designs. The pistol rotates in your hand instead of coming straight back at you.

I don't know what they were thinking when they designed that gun it is absolutely revolting.

personally I think the super blackhawk hunter in stainless with a 7.5" barrel is the nicest looking revolver Ruger makes.

I have owned a pile of all the ones mentioned. My 'go to gun' is the old style Redhawk with the 5.5 barrel in .44 magnum. It is also stainless. i have killed a pile of animals with the Super Blackhawk, but the Redhawk is my favorite. I have other big bore revolvers in larger calibers, and sometimes pack them, but that Redhawk is the one that gets outa the house the most.

    :agree:
This is the only reason I don't own one. I do not like the look for the Super Redhawk. It's the ugly wheel gun. :puking:

    Call me superficial :whistling:

This is the gun I will buy, the Ruger Bisley stainless Hunter 44mag! Now that is a nice looking SA revolver! :notworthy:
I like the feel of the Bisley grip design, very comfortable.
