It seems that subcompact 1911s are more finicky with ammo. What ammo do you recommend or do you use with your subcompact 1911s?

    Target: ?
    Self Defense: ?

SD: I have used and like the 185gr Gold Dots in my Officer size 1911's. But my main SD load in .45ACP, no matter what I'm totin' is usually a 200+P Gold Dot.

Sub-compact 1911's are finicky. Some will feed anything you stuff into them, some will only feed ball. The only way to know what works in your gun is to try it in your gun. You will have to gather up a variety of ammo and try it all.
By the way, if it turns out that your gun will only feed FMJ Ball ammo, it is not the end of the world. Ball .45 is nothing to sneeze at as a SD round.

I agree with 2740 with the minor exception that I use 230 Gold Dots and sometimes 185gr DPX rounds by Corbon. I've had Ranger T's stovepipe in little .45's and I always seem to find Gold Dot the answer.

the best feeding .45ACP JHP I've come across is the 230 grain Remington Golden Saber. I think it has to do with the ogive, or curve of the bullet and smoothness around the hollow point opening. It's great to have pistol that feeds anything, but if it doesn't I try the RGS before doing custom work or selling the gun. Others I've compared are Gold Dots, Ranger T, Federal Hydra Shoks and HST.

230Ball for play, and Corbon 185gr DPX +P for carry.

^^ I agree. RGS ammo feeds in every pistol I've owned.Even the finicky ones. YMMV. tom.

    ETA RGS are for SD/HD.

I shoot LSWC reloads or ball for target/practice ammo. If I only had one choice for all it would be 230gr ball.tom.
