    The 2pac thread got me thinking.

    Most music I don't care for, I tune out just fine. Rap is the one that pretty much annoys me on contact. I try not to let subjective things bother me, but I actually get offended if I'm forced to listen to rap for more than 20 seconds or so. I've gotten up and walked out of restaurants and coffee shops because a rap song came on and wasn't turned off immediately.

    Yet so many people like it, smart intelligent people. I must be missing something here. I'm trying to keep an open mind. In my mind, "good rap song" is an oxymoron, as there is no such a thing, and yet that is what I'm going to ask for.

    What should I give a listen that might convince me there is some value to rap? I'd really love to enjoy another genre of music.

    The only rap album I have on my iPod is 'God Loves Ugly' by Atmosphere.

    You may like blackstarr. Mos Def is the main rapper who is actually a good poet. Here is the title of their album Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star

    Tech N9ne - Demons
    Tech N9ne - Mama Nem
    Tupac - Dear Mama
    Tupac - Hail Mary
    Eminem - Mockingbird <<<<<<<<<<

    I have so much more that I really like, but I think several of those have more of a deeper meaning behind it, especially Mockingbird, so I picked those.

    Here's a lot of the songs I listened to back in the day. Needless to say there's a crap-ton of swearing in all of these songs so you've been warned.

    TLC - Waterfalls http://youtu.be/8WEtxJ4-sh4 (not really rap except the one part but a powerful message as AIDS/HIV was becoming mainstream)

    Hit em up. - Tupac

    Want a white rapper? Atmosphere. More especially, trying to find a balance.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbEwHJX95QE"]Atmosphere - Trying To Find A Balance - YouTube[/ame]

    Or, Jay Z has some stuff that isn't pure Rap. This is a good one that's rap mixed with some british guy. (Music starts 1:12)

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1nbvplgElw"]"Young Forever" Jay-Z | Mr. Hudson (OFFICIAL VIDEO) - YouTube[/ame]

    Once you hear some lyrics from some rappers, you'll stop for a second and be like "whoa, that was an awesome pun."

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uild9uaG24w"]Run This Town - Drake ft. Javon Black - YouTube[/ame]

    "Pump to your chest, I ain't talkin CPR"
    "I hate callin the women bches, but the bches love it"

    Then there's just your absolutely retarded music. It's good too though.

    Rack City (A "rack" = $1000) - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE3yia1AJeQ"]Tyga - Rack City (Explicit) - YouTube[/ame]

    Racks on Racks - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlPLO6H9iGM"]YC Ft Furture Racks on Racks LYRICS.flv - YouTube[/ame]

    I go hard in the Paint by Waka Flaka Flame This is censored, so basically it has almost no words, but watch the video, lol - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkkC9cK8Hz0"]Waka Flocka "Hard in Da Paint" (Official Video) - YouTube[/ame]

    Finally, my favorite, I recommend ALL GT'ers watch my n*gga Baraka Flaka Flame in "Head of the State" - Parody of the previous song, HILARIOUS, - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ-hPNrKdZI"]Baracka Flacka Flames - Head of The State - YouTube[/ame]

    And finally, some harder louder rap

    Old School - see Onyx - Slam

    New School - See Rick Ross ft Meek Millz - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfjwNrloDZg"]Meek Millz - I'm A Boss, Ft. Rick Ross (+download link!) - YouTube[/ame]

    Lil Wayne - We Be Steady Mobbin
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AXUJFBqgYE"]Lil Wayne - We Be Steady Mobbin w/lyrics - YouTube[/ame]

    That some has one of the roughest verses I've heard in a while.

    "I swear you cant f with me, but i can f your girl and make her nut for me, and slut for me, and steal for me, and kill for me, and of course it will be your cash, then i'll murder that B and send her body back to your ***."

    "Suck my clip, swallow my bullets, and dont you spit ooooooo"

    Some of the crap they say has got to be personal. And people wonder why rappers are always killin each other.

    That last song is pretty mainstream. They play the censored version on the radio a lot. This is the kind of stuff kids listen to these days. It explains a lot things if you ask me. But hey, you gotta hand it to these rappers, some of them go HARD.

    While Obama was running for election, I got to hear this constantly at work:

    Obama in the White House
    or blood in the streets
    if he don't get elected
    I'm the mutha****a
    you gonna meet
    I gots me a 9
    I gots an Ak
    I gots a shotgun
    gonna take it all the way

    it was a local rapper called Cracka Killa, the brothers in the warehouse would play it all day, repeatedly. We had more than a few issues between them and the rest of the workers because of it, and it got kind of dicey more than once. After beng told I had to attend racial sensitivity training because I didn't like it, I found another job.

    I didn't like rap before I got to listen to this, I hate it now.
