Hey I just picked up a Ruger mark 3 that's has a rail on top for an optic. I like that you can still use the "irons" (fiber optic) with the rail on. I was thinking about a smaller red dot or like a holographic sight. Maybe like a 4x magnification? This will be my first optic on a pistol, so let's hear what you all think!

Most red dots have no magnification so that means a long eye relief scope and a 4 power means you probably are going to have to rest the gun to hit a target at 25 yards.

A red dot is probably the best suited optic for the ranges you'll probably be shooting at.

I have 4x pistol scope---nice Burris scope but it sucks---too much magnification.

Still kickin myself for not buying the 2 power---would have been perfect.

How are they? Got pics or models #s? I was thinking of a 2x magnification and like a 30mm tube

This is a Simmons, about $40 and performs very well.

A straight 2X is the best choice for a handgun. IMO the Leupold is the best out there that is still affordable. The Nikon and Burris is a decent choice if you are on a budget.

I'm sure someone has asked before M2, but how do you like the new model BSA compared to the older style shown?

Ive got a MKIII Hunter with a SIG red dot sight I robbed off my 556P, very similar to a Aimpoint T-1, works well for this application

2X is fine for my Charger, but too big for a MKIII, in my opinion.

What the hell was I thinking here? This could only be shot from a rest. The scope is now in a box in the closet.

Just right and doesn't lose zero when removed.

I like the sight that uses scope rings (above) better than the sight with the built in mount. Using the rings the sight sits lower.
Problem is BSA stopped making that model. I lucked out and found six more after they were discontinued.

I like the way BSA changed the appearance of the new sight. They also made the built in mount to fit the normal Weaver rail and the 22 rail both.

When I received these the other day I stuck them on the SIG 552 and S&W M&P 15-22, because they look better than the old design (still shown on Natchez wed site)
It just took a few rounds to sight them in.
