    Fellow shooters,

    Just received my new set of dies for .38 spl / .357 mag. I also got some Hornady 125 gr XTPs, W231, WST, CCI sp primers and assorted .38 and .357 brass.

    I have been loading .45 acp until now.

    Any favorite loads???

    Lyman suggests between 3.9 - 5.1 grs of 231...

    I load all of my 38 ammo with W231, but none of it has that bullet, so I can't speak from personal experience. Here's what Winchester/Hodgdon data says for a NON-+P load:

    125 GR. HDY XTP W231 1.455" (OAL)
    4.3grs = 826fps @ 13,300 CUP (start)
    4.9grs = 934fps @ 16,300 CUP (max)

    For the +P version of this load:
    125 GR. HDY XTP HP-38 1.455" (OAL)
    5.3grs = 1018fps @ 19,800 CUP (+P Max)

    (For clarity's sake, HP-38 and W231 are the same powder, so you can use either's loading data for the other.)

    10mm is right as thats what the Hodgdon manual lists at. The number 13 Speer manual lists 5.6 grs DNR for all 125 gr jacketed rounds. Thats using their bullets but i have used the 5.6 load for all fmj,s in the past without problems.

    Thanks for the input! I also have .357 brass with which I guess I can load to +p levels. I am going to be firing from a .357 SP 101....

    With .357 mag brass You can use .38 spec load data all the way up to .357 mag level. So if you want you could even make some +p+ .38 spec. if you wanted.

    I am going to start by loading some standard pressure rounds for function and then I will start changing the level. I really like shooting .357 mags out of my SP101...

    I load .357 with 5gr 231 and a 148gr full wadcutter. Great target loads and very accurate.
