I was watching American Guardian the other day and they brought up an interesting thought.

In states that are constantly demonizing rifles like the AR and AK and anything black pretty much...a good option for self defense is a 44 magnum lever action rifle. I have never shot one but from what I saw some models are really short, hold a decent amount of rounds, looks light weight, and I am guessing they are decently accurate at 100/200 yards? 300gr 44 magnum rounds pack alot of punch.

I guess it also makes sense to have a combination handgun & rifle that can shoot the same ammo if needed so some 44 magnum revolver would be nice too?

Anybody have one? What are the real world pro's & con's? Are there better combination's?

Would setting up a lever action as a "black gun" be considered blasphemy? I think it sounds like a good alternative to the evil AR & AK in anti gun states?

That's been posted on here by the owner. It's a very cool gun IMO. And really a great urban defense/HD weapon. .30-30 ammo is readily available and priced really well.

I had a couple Marlin 44 Mag lever actions in the early 1970's. Funny thing was when using the same magnum ammo I was using in the Ruger Blackhawk the rifles kicked the heck out of me.

I got out of 44 Mag when the price of punching holes in paper got too high.

I wouldn't mind having those guns back but I wouldn't be interested in making a "black gun" out of it other than adding a sling and optical sight of some kind.

Seems to me I watched The Best Defense or one of the other SD shows, and Michael Bane was on it and said he used a short lever action in his bedroom for SD. The show then showed some tactics on how to clear a house using a short SD lever action rifle. Looked like an inexpensive solution to me but I wouldn't encumber it with a carry sling that would just get in the way if one ever needed to use it for SD. If I lived somewhere where the risk of bear entry into my home was real, I'd have one handy in a major caliber.

A .44mag lever action is a great HD gun. I had a Marlin 1894P that was an excellent rifle. That black one in your post would be perfect. Powerful, accurate, short, and fast.
