A couple weeks ago I sold my Glock 23 gen 4 on Armslist. I never really planned on selling it but then too I rarely shot it. Put it on AL and it sold rather quickly. Sale went fine and the person seemed to be a nice younger individual. Transaction was done by the book and everything checked out correctly with paperwork.
Two days later I get a text asking what ammo the gun shoots. Me: I found Gold Dots worked very well and highly recommended he try those. Him: what mm is that? Me: not sure what you mean by mm? Him: What mm size? Me: 40 S&W if you're asking what caliber? Him: You sold me a Glock not a S&W. What size mm?
I thought he was just trying to be funny but the conversation continued and I realized he was totally serious. I really wanted to help him understand but finally recommended he bring the gun in to a dealer for some help to make sure he gets the correct ammo.
It kind of made me think holy shat.

Lots of new gun owners out there now. Most of them have no clue.

Here is a snip from a local Armslist listing for a G23. I assume your ad included this.

Glock 23? Is that one of those 45 mm semi auto revolvers?

He's the reason gun stores had to put signs in their reloading aisles "these bullets are not loaded ammunition. Returns will not be accepted."

I sold some 9mm bullet heads on armslist just a few weeks ago. I made it very clear in the ad what they were and had several pictures. I still had idiots emailing me saying "I'd like to buy your ammo." I had to explain several times it's not "ammo."

Years ago I was at GT Distributor’s when a young man purchased a Glock. While the paperwork was being completed, he put a box of ammo on the counter for his new pistol.

The woman behind the counter said, “honey, you grabbed the wrong .357s. You got the big ones, but you want the small ones.”

The way she said it was hilarious.

    What ammo does this shoot?
    9mm.

    Right, but what brand?

Wonder if something similar happened with a recent sale. Sold 426 rounds of 38 super for $125. Saw the same ammo for sale a few days Later, 423 rounds for that same price. Wonder if the guy ran a few rounds down the pipe on a 38 special revolver before he figured out something was wrong.

I know everyone is a new shooter at some point and I'm not all that innocent. I once purchased 45 gap ammo for my 30sf by mistake, I never looked closely at the box. I now use the box as a door stop.

When I was brand new to firearms I bought a 9mm handgun and bought some ammo for it. Was told to get cheap range ammo. So I did. I wasn’t raised with guns and my mom put a restriction of no guns ever.

I went and bought a box of cheap 9mm for my handgun, only to discover it was bullets, not ammo when I got home. Kept it, and years later started reloading and had a box to start with.

Somebody probably told him to buy a Glock and he just bought the first one that came around in his price range. Sad thing is, first time buyer, he should have educated himself before a purchase.:(

You should have blew his mind and told him a 7mm is “bigger” than a 9mm

It can be a bit confusing i guess to newbies. Try explaining .50ae and .50 bmg are the same caliber. That a .308 is much more powerful than a .357. A 9mm is bigger than a .380. A 6.5mm is more powerful than a 9mm. :dunno:

One of the fast food emporiums launched its 1/3 pound cheeseburger. The product failed because the customer base thought McD’s quarter pounder was larger.
