I have a Dan Wesson 357 Monson that's needing fresh paint on the rear sight, which includes keeping the white inside the etched groove. My plan is to remove the paint (0000 steel wool?), clean with alcohol then paint. Black paint first then the white 'u'. Any technique/tool recommendations for painting that tiny, white groove in order to leave a straight, sharp line? (Not so straight now, that left side, eh?) I suppose plain-jane, flat model paint will suffice but I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.

Model paint probably won’t last. A lot of folks swear by nail polish with a clear coat over the top since gun cleaning chemicals will tend to eat at the paint over time.

    Good luck!

I've used nail polishs and Testors-- repeat as needed, remove/change if not to your liking.
At CQ handgun range distance, not a big deal

Blue masking tape will give you a clean sharp edge

Use well shaken model enamel like Tamiya (preferred) or Testors, and apply it by dipping the tip of a toothpick in the paint and dropping/flowing a small quantity at a time. It’s easy, just practice first.

Toothpick works great, but I amnot a fan of white anything on my rear sight.

I find that quite a few of my customers have trouble with black sights against a black bullseye. Front sight inserts such as this along with a white outline rear sight helps them quite a bit with target acquisition and sight alignment:
