I need a watch that can take some seious abuse and still LOOK new. I'm not really impressed with functioning after trauma...it needs to look nice as well otherwise I'm not going to wear it anyways.

Does anyone have experience with these watches? Any particular model tougher than the rest? What makes the faces/glass near scratch/chip/shatter proof if they are?

    Thanks!:)

Sapphire crystal. If it says mineral crystal it's okay but not near the scratchproofness of sapphire.

There's also sapphire coated, avoid this if you want the honest scratchproof.

Sapphire crystal, there really is nothing that comes close.

    I appreciate the info!:)

Now is Reactor the only one using these sappire crystal faces or what?

Are Reactors really the toughest? Why?

If so, again, any specific model better than the others?

    Thanks!:)

Most good sports watches have sapphire crystals.

Are Reactors really the toughest? No, not really. Because if they really are the toughest, then the extreme explorers would be using them.

Extreme explorers...is that a group or do you mean people like Bear and Les and that explore "extreme" places?

Either way, what do those people use?

    Thanks!:)

I've never heard of Reactor watches. I doubt really seriously they're the toughest. They may very well be right up there but if you start looking at higher end watches you'll find all of them have sapphire crystals. I know concrete workers who have gone through all types and most of them ended up with Rolexes because they're the only ones that will live through it.

Breitling, Tag, Rolex, Omega, take your pick. Once you get into the over a grand class you end up with some really tough watches. I believe the best money to toughness class, if you don't want a piece of jewelry that tells time, is the around $500 though.

I checked out their website really quickly and did not see sapphire crystals listed as a feature.

Not sure what you mean by you want it to "look new" for a long time. Every steel watch is going to get scratched up no matter how careful you are. The sapphire crystal does help the dial retain its appearance at least, but these crystals are usually only on high end models. Your best bet might be to get a $20 walmart special and replace it every year.

    What is your budget?

Explorers like Sir Ranulph Fiennes uses Kobold watches. Mountaineers like Jean Troilet use Rolexes.

Workers like COMEX commercial divers use Rolex Sea Dweller.

And of course a bad mamajama such as myself also use Rolex Sea Dweller.
