I went to the range yesterday with two of my officemates. I brought my Colt Combat Elite, Glock 21, Ruger 22/45, & Browning Buckmark. We had fun shooting all of them.
A shooter at the range even let us shoot his .460 magnum revolver. I think it was a S&W. That gun had some kick.
I met three kabayans from Mira Mesa at the range. They let me shoot their Para-Ordnance. I think it was a Para Warthog. The grip was really short. I expected some kick but the kick felt like a regular 5" 1911. The Warthog would be a good carry gun. It shot pretty good at 7 yards. I let them shoot my Colt Combat Elite in return.
One of the range guys saw how accurate the Colt CE was shooting. I let him shoot the Colt CE & had fun with it too...I limited my shooting to 10 yards yesterday. Next time, I'll shoot @ 15 yards...

My first 25 rounds yesterday with the Colt Combat Elite...

Colt Combat Elite's best group of the day...10 rounds @ 10 yards...

    Pogie,

Is the Colt Combat Elite on the current lineup of Colt pistols? I read an article in a magazines a few years back that tested four pistols including the Colt Gold Cup Trophy. The author's impression of the pistol was that it rattled a lot and was quite loose compared to other pistols tested.

Guess you won in the accuracy department(all pistols were reliable)? Colt!

    isuzu,

I think they stopped the production of Combat Elite. They are now offering the Colt Special Combat Government as their two tone gun. Check out this link... http://www.coltsmfg.com/cmci/pistols.asp

I think the current production Colts have tighter fit that their old counterparts. New technologies (ie. CNC machining) in gun production provide better tolerance/fit. My Colt Combat Elite is the older production model. It had some play when I got it but still shot decent groups.

Then, I learned about Clark Custom Guns. I sent the Combat Elite for an Accuracy Job. Check out these links...

After four months, the Combat Elite came back with a test target... 2 3/8" 10-shot group @ 50 yards...

Here is a pic of the Combat Elite with the test target...

    nrmcolt,

Yes, it is the Wilson "drop-in" beavertail on the CE. I first bought the Les Baer beavertail, but I can't get myself to cut the frame. I decided to get & install the Wilson "drop-in" instead...just in case I will decide to put the CE to its original config. I got lucky because it was a complete drop-in...no fitting/filing required. There was an instruction to file down the finger that hits the back of the trigger for fitting. No need on this one. I stoned the finger smooth, just because I wanted to. I love the feel of the high grip hold after I installed the Wilson "drop-in".
