First time shooting it today. 6.5 Creedmoor, I'm impressed with the performance and hope I can tighten up my groups with a little load development. I tried 129gr. SST Hornadays and wasn't impressed. Shooting 140gr. Hornaday match bullets with 35.2gr. of Varget I got three rounds in .710" at 200 yards.

Nice rifle, and nice shooting. I love Rugers, but the M77 seldom is mentioned as a top performer in factory trim. I like the looks, feel, and action of the M77 compared to Savage and the Remington 700, but wonder how they consistently compare in terms of performance.

What is you varmint of choice for the gun? Mine was always prairie dogs. Whatever it is, it looks like it will work well.

Nice setup for sure. I keep hearing good things about both that rifle, and that round. So many guns, so little time. Enjoy it. First shot.

Growing up where I did I have to say ground hogs but not seen any in Texas where I'm at and ground is too sandy in Alabama where my house is for them. I've never seen a prairie dog but keep saying I'm going to go to west Texas before I leave here and try them with a hand gun. Truth is I'll shoot paper and maybe steel with this rifle.

P dogs are much fun. Buddy and I drove to Colorado from WV to hunt on his friend's fathers ranch. 8 long guns, a few pistols and couple thousand rounds of ammo each in a Durango right after 9/11. Halfway there we thought about what we were doing and if we ever got stopped, we would be on live TV spread-eagled in the median with all our stuff laid out for the TV helicopters.

Stayed a week with no problems. Had to buy licenses in CO and Nebraska since the guy's ranch covered two states and we were in the corner of both.

    Ranchers really hate those things.
